What if?

Us achieving what would've been then an unprecedented treble would be far more important than stopping Liverpool winning the double so I'd reverse the 85 result if I could do either.

In 85 the Moran red card ended up working against us and we got sucker punched and in 86 we bossed the game for 57 minutes before a total cock up at the back got Liverpool back in the game from nowhere when they appeared dead. We could so easily have won both those finals

Both are painful memories though, with 86 probably the more painful because at least the year before we had two trophies to fall back on.

1985. Easily.

The double still had a mythical feel to it, to add a European trophy would have really hammered home what a tremendous team it was.
Agreed. As it is, when the media and the more recent generations look back on football in the 80s it's still labelled as the RS's decade. Pulling off the treble would have made us the first (the only?) English treble to have included a European trophy. We would never have been forgotten.

Yeah we would. :coffee: ruddy rs in the media.

Could we have the 1986 European Cup too?
Still, as others have said, let's make new history. 26 years is far too long for a club of this size to go without a trophy. Think Carlo is just the man to end this drought.

Given a choice I would take a win in 85,to do a treble at that time would have stood out,if the game had been a week earlier/later we would have won it
I remember at the end of 90mins just thinking get a replay, as the players looked out on their feet.
And the replays in them days were played on the Thursday so I good 5 day gap.

The virtually identical 2 teams played the charity shield a few months later and it was men against boys.
