I always wonder what happens to famous people who get their 20 minutes and then don't follow it up. The one hit wonder. I'm guess they go get a job but it's kind of hard to think about someone who is a famous music star or something working in insurance sales or something 20 years later. I mean their lives don't end, but what happens when no one is arsed about their music or acting career or whatever anymore.

I think about these things way too much.

Depends a lot on how big the hit was...Rafferty apparently made £80,000 a year off Baker Street alone, for example. You could easily disappear off into the sunset on that and never be heard from again.

Funny your post made me think of this thread, a guy like that. 80 grand a year WOW! Although I bet he's still not making that kind of money.

EDIT: He's dead, so I'm guessing his earning potential has been limited.

That's the thing about people like Bieber nowadays...can you see ANY of his sh*te holding up for 30 years? HAHA He's gonna go down hard, especially if he doesn't have his finances together right now. The topic is kind of interesting as I was watching that ESPN special 'Broke' last night about pro athletes who p*ssed away all their money and are now bankrupt...it's pretty eye-opening.

I have two names for Beiber: David Cassidy and Leif Garrett.

That is CRAZY. I was depressed watching that.

Also, just think what McCartney pulls in a year if Rafferty was doing that with just Baker St. You could live a nice life off just a percentage point of it, I have no doubts.

What do you think they do with their days? Once you are famous is hard to be the guy who used to be famous? I bet LA is full of people like that at the grocery store.

Chesney Hawks lives near Barnes common in a plush house with a fit bird. my mate used to deliver him milk... He's sound apparantley, no idea wtf he actually does though other than drink milk.

The one and only, i dont think there is anyone he'd rather be... you cant take that away from him

This reminds me of that film ''About A Boy''. Where Hugh Grant is living off the royalties of his dad's Christmas hit.

Gerry Rafferty was a two hit wonder really though. Probably got a few quid off 'Stuck In The Middle'.

That's another thing. If you're living off the royalties of your one hit, imagine the difference between that hit being 'The One and Only' and being 'A Whiter Shade of Pale' or 'Baker Street'. In terms of iconic status and personal satisfaction
