What happened to parodies?

Someone posted a Blazing Saddles clip in another thread and it got me thinking of the classic Mel Brooks parodies and the likes of Airplane, Hot Shots etc.

And although I've always known it, I hadn't actually though about it... there hasn't been anything even close to a decent parody movie in almost (or perhaps at least) twenty years?

What happened to them? There's been loads of things to parody but nothing except those utterly trash "<NAME HERE> Movie" things have been released by the Wayans or whatever.

Is there a reason they just died in the 90s?

But more of a post modern re-hash. Done pretty well.

Untill they did 77 sequels.

Unless you actually mean Scary Movies. Which was parody.
