No idea mate, it was never welcoming but it used to have a certain je ne sais quoi. Now you could be anywhere, I fear that the process of mondialisation has made it into just another city. Brussels writ large.

Last time I was there, however, I had a very nice conversation about cycling with a riot policeman who was moving me off a street they wanted to evacuate so maybe there's hope.
