We've got the players

Player Valuation: £40m
One thing that has been annoying me since the Birmingham game is that we do have the players to be a top 6 side, but we play like we're battling against relegation...everyone back behind the ball, not over-committing, long punts upfield for a lone striker to chase.

As I've said in a previous thread, I would have switched Neville into midfield today and attacked Liverpool with Coleman and Baines overlapping Donovan and Pienaar.

____________Neville
Coleman ________________Baines
____Donovan Arteta Pienaar
____________Cahill
_____________Saha

Donovan and Pienaar could have tucked into the midfield to keep us compact. With Cahill dropping in there too, we'd have matched up with Liverpool's midfield quartet. Neville would have then provided the cover for the full backs to bomb forward.

Donovan, Pienaar and Cahill would have been able to get into the box to join Saha and to hopefully get something on a cross from one of the wing backs.

Pulling Mascherano and Insua wide would have given Donovan and Pienaar space to operate in around the box.

It was really disappointing that we didn't take advantage of Mascherano being used at right back.

Credit to Moyes, he's brought the players in and, on paper atleast, we've got a really good side. I fancied our chances today. Our bench would have wiped the floor with theirs too. Being able to call on Arteta, Yakubu, Anichebe, Bily and Coleman was a real bonus. It's such a shame that the tactics so often mean that we don't utilise the strengths of the players at our disposal.

Have to agree, we have the players and the ability and you can talk about tactics all day long but what we are really missing is the mentality.

i think we should of gone for if possible

neville jags(i know he has injury) senderos distin

fanni heitinga cahill

pienaar

yak saha

then go back in time and play it in the 70s:D kill em lads

IMHO you're spot on with it being about the mentality now but that's going to be the hardest part because, as I just said in another post, David hates to lose more than he loves to win.

That became apparent to me about halfway through his second season with us. Obviously, hating to lose is not technically a bad trait and it's what we needed when he arrived but, ugh...hopefully I'm making sense here.

I understand you but couldn't quite put it into words myself mate

I've only started following Everton (since Donovan arrived) but Pinaar looked dangerous in the first half. Yakubu looked fat. Donovan looked like he wasn't interested in getting into any hard tackles... Really fun game to watch.

Do you guys have MF's to distribute better than what we saw today?

Difference for Moyes today he said was that we didn't have 'special players at the top end of the pitch'. That's why we didn't get anything.

Donovan has been good since he arrived.
Pienaar is off form atm but has the ability to be immense.
Osman can be good but is usually non-existent.
Fellaini is completely boss but today went off injured and we missed him.
Bilyaletdinov is good but is inconsistent atm and is usually played in the wrong position.
Cahill is a quality player but only when played behind the striker, once two are in play he usually disappears.
Arteta is boss but only just back from a very bad injury.
Rodwell has great Potiential but has been injured recently.

But the answer to your question is YES, we have alot more quality, today we just didn't have a plan B

What a crap thread, just full of crap.

Just saying like.

Poor quality.

I thought it was a veiled attack on Moyes. Fair play to billy, he doesn't want a witch hunt on the manager so ventured into the fray with a 'the players are not to blame [therefore, you fill in the blanks]' gambit. Clever, imo.

The OP was good, but then it just descended into fantasy land.
