Great, 'in the rear view mirror'. Super, war on terror won. Sweet. Stable area of the middle east right there. Awesome. High fives all round, bet the families of those that have died are doing backflips.
Hang on, could this very early move be related to how much is being spent keeping 'the forces' over there? Glad economic factors were not top of the pile 66 years ago.

60 killed in a car bomb in Baghdad yesterday; starvation stalks the land; sanitation is prehistoric; massive refugee problem; a third of the employable population either have little or no work.

I dont think nation-building was factored into the triumphalism.

It is ok, the traffickers that once moved in drugs circles can in fact get them to Europe with much less risk.
When it costs someone else, it means it is free. Imagine the guns and ammunition certain western Governments will have stocked up in six months now they are not ploughing the resources into a modern day Vietnam. Oh wait a second, still raging in Afghanistan.
Got to beat that war on terror though, bringing freedom to those that thirst for it overseas, no matter how many bullets get fired for the cause.

The worst conclusion drawn since Chamberlain came back from Munich?

Yeah, cause the "democracy" under Hussein was peachy for the civilians there.

If you want to continue with posts like this DaveK and then make accompanying commentary, please see to it that your commentary has some basis in fact before posting.

Otherwise, it looks as you're just looking to windup people up with these types of posts. And show some respect to those who fought and died for something they believed in. But I can guarantee you that no one in America is saying "we won." What we did was help a country that couldn't help themselves.

But it was soooo much better under Hussein and his sons.... Kite flying and all.
