"we shall not be moved"

Er because I was there and it struck me that for a small club midweek replay they brought a pretty decent shout imo. Happy to bow to your better or more factual memory though. Out of interest do you know how many? I was just happy to get in alive following massive crush outside St End.!!! Nice goal by O Keefe eh?
Great O'Keefe goal, with attendant great celebration in Gwladys St. I can recall not getting in until 20 minutes after KO. Mad outside, not helped by the fact that in those days it was pay at the turnstile. The game was in the midweek immediately after the original tie at St Marys (although I was at that one too, I can't recall whether that was a 0-0 or a 1-1). GP attendance was nearly 50,000 if I recall correctly. I have no idea what the away following was at GP, all I'm saying is that for a midweek game, arranged at short notice, and requiring a 450 mile round journey, only the biggest of clubs would likely bring a significant following -- and Southampton were/are certainly not in that category.

We led 2-0 in the Quarter final at home to Citeh and Imre, having previously scored, missed an open goal after rounding the goalie :(

I think we might have missed a penno as well before City scored twice to take us to Maine Road wher they beat us 3-0, I think.

We drew 2-2 (and didn't lead 2-0) and we didn't miss a pen but Varadi missed an absolute sitter (also Ratcliffe was sent off for an incident on the running track with Hutchinson I think) - we lost the replay 3-1 - dreadful. I was at both games and the half-time chant of "we shall not be moved" was one of my all-time favourites. I am pretty sure we used to play the original gospel song on the tannoy at one time..

So, to clarify here are the match stats:

I think you're mistaking Varadi's "goal" with the "pork pie" one at the Park End against the RS as he didn't score in this game.

I was at the first game at The Dell and all.

We were mob handed that day.

Yes, we forgive Paul Power, though.....he did a great job for us a few years later when we won the league.....:)
I remember us signing him,he must have been about 33/34,one club man, good pro and all that, but never really thought he was anything special,I thought at the time, why?,'ells bells he didn't half make me eat humble pie, what a left peg and superb at running at pace and crossing, played a massive role in our title win in 1987 IMHO.:)

2-2 for the original tie iirc...14th February....... I proposed to Madame Allezlesbleus that evening hahaha!
Yep 50k or so for the replay I think. I was in 20 mins after KO too. That is sort of my point about their support as I remember it. Relatively good in the circumstances, more than I expected not, massive like city had for the QF.

Do you know I was on Row A of the Upper Gladdy for that game in line with the penalty spot so had a great view of O'Keefe's winner,I can always remember looking down at the terracing and there was steam rising it was that chocca:)
That was such a good cup run until the city replay. Nearly cried when we threw away the lead at Goodison. Sweet knocking out the RS in the 4th. Imre Varadi!!!!!!!!!!!

We did indeed. The Seekers version though. And we certainly were the originators of the use of the song in football. I always had to laugh when you'd hear other clubs' supporters singing it with the original words still in it ie 'just like a tree that's standing by the water side', WTF.
