We’re Not Super-Rich. Here’s Why.

Meanwhile, back to the point... the £100m figure was widely quotes by all press outlets. The far more likely scenario, as I'm sure everyone will understand, is that some sad journo somewhere did exactly the same kind of calculation that the OP did (Luk say 40, Stones say 50... whatever) and threw it out there, and the new everyone and their dog dived in. Far more likely than a theory that the club's new owner fed that figure out.

2 comments to support that:
1. look at Moshiri's behaviour, he keeps his cards close to his chest and he is waaay out of the limelight. Not his style to put things out there
2. The tendency to conspiracy theories in this site is by far the most prevalent and is pretty much the first view for some.

Might it just be that intelligent people who work hard to become wealthy (unlike for example Mike 'lucky' Ashley who has pretty much zero business or PR etiquette), don't just gash it away but spend CAREFULLY when spending big. . ?
You inadvertantly bring up a good point. Moshiri isnt an entrepreneur, hes an accountant to a mega rich man.

When push came to shove he may have lost his nerve. It takes a certain type of man to take those kind of risks.

Again, this is a load of nonsense. City bought 1 big name in their first window, Robinho. Good buys in Kompany and Zabaleta granted but at the time they were hardly the names or players they are today.

That first window in full:
Jo
Tal Ben-Haim
Vincent Kompany
Shaun Wright-Phillips
Leandro Glauber
Pablo Zabaleta
Robinho

It took 3 windows - the Barry, Lescott and Tevez window to be exact - for them to start to build the base of their first title-winning squad.

You honestly think we're going to spend cash like Man City did? You're going to be disappointed mate!

Moshiri is not even in the top 25 mate:

He's the 12th richest Premier League owner, though. Or the 9th poorest, depending on how you look at it!

A lot of those figures are conjecture. It is difficult to estimate wealth. Most firms who do it are based in the US and openly acknowledge they have limited understanding of Russian finances.

Forbes openly stated they "cautiously estimated" Moshiri's wealth and stated that they weren't aware of all of his assets. It is widely accepted that he probably owns a lot more than is given credit to him. He is by no means the most wealthy owner but also the shouts of "he's only got 1 billion" are also untrue and Forbes have cautiously estimated some of his assets at double that figure.

“Everton’s ambitious super-rich new owner Farhad Moshiri is making an astonishing attempt to buy Joe Hart. The Iranian money man is ready to throw around £40 million at a bid…Hart will be offered around £200,000-a-week.” – The Sun 23 May 2016.
I believe this and the £100m budget rumours were leaked to the press in order to generate buzz that it was hoped would go on to convince a top manager and a marquee player to sign and kick start the Moshiri revolution.

Ultimately we were offered Hart without the £40m price tag but, as Stek was performing well, decided that his wages could be better spent elsewhere. Does this sound like the behaviour of a super-rich club to you? Here’s a Premiership table of owner’s by wealth: http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/fo...eague-owner-richest-wealthy-your-club-s-chief

Moshiri comes 12th yet the super-rich narrative has him overnight transforming the fortunes of a mid-table club to such a degree we could realistically attract the likes of Mourinho, Monchi, David Dein and a procession of Champs league players paid for by a net budget that would compete with Abramovitch and Monsoor. It doesn’t add up unless, of course, he’s being secretly backed by Usmanov which is a realistic possibility but there’s no evidence of that yet.

So is the £100m budget a lie? Not necessarily. When first mooted it seemed almost certain that Lukaku would leave for around £60m and add around another £40m investment, which I do believe is the true budget, and you have your £100. If you add another £50m for Stones then the £100m would be, in fact, an understatement.
The efforts to sign one marquee, such as Witsel, I believe were genuine as Moshiri wanted to make a statement but they do not provide a shred of evidence of super wealth as, at that time, it was expected we would go on to sell Lu or Stones or both.

The sudden increase in activity after landing £50m and the TDD efforts to sign Gabbiadini and Brahimi and then Sissoko all correspond with a budget up to 40m as they coincided with an attempt to sell McCarthy. The ridiculous statement to Jim White today regarding McCarthy only serves to confirm that we were trying to engineer his departure and only stopped when Sissoko chose Spurs.

I’ll finish by saying that I strongly believe that Moshiri is very good for us and the buzz he created helped us to land RK so I’m very grateful and positive about the future. I just don’t believe hype when confronted with a glut of conflicting evidence.
Must have missed this post.

Quoting the S-n....get back in yer box lad.

Joke of a post.

Not a scouser so briefly forgot about that paper's standing on Merseyside.
It doesn't add to, or subtract from, the points being put across though.

As the username suggests im not a scouser either.Yet i find you're flippant i briefly forgot about that paper's standing on Merseyside line to be highly insulting.I was always aware of the hurt that sh!trag has caused. That sense of contempt hatred and anger towards that piece of crap and all that it stands for just grows and grows once you have been touched by the city of Liverpool and it's people.Im babbling a bit here but you're i briefly forget about that papers standing rubbish just doesn't cut it with me.

nasty behavior that from the Croatian fans.

If you like peace and quiet then Croatian fans will not be your cup of tea.
For your information I googled the Hart story and that quote was the first to come up. I quickly pasted it in without thinking. When someone pointed it out I immediately tried to edit but was too late. Does that satiate your sense of outrage or, as a foreigner, do you want to ingratiate yourself further with posters on here by calling for me to be banned for making one unthinking reference to a national newspaper?
By the way I'm not a Croatian but I find your flippant negative generalisations about Croatians to be insulting. I'm sure you'll try to say it's not the same thing but that doesn't cut it with me. Do I sound pathetic to you?
