West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace has agreed a deal to sell the club to a Chinese investment group led by entrepreneur Guochuan Lai.

Former Blackburn chief executive John Williams will replace Peace, who has been chairman for 14 years.

"My immediate priorities will be to maintain the club's stable structure, respecting its well-run nature and its heritage," said Lai.

"I have no intention of changing the club's ethos."

He added: "I believe that we have a competitive team, with the right management and coaching staff in place."

Entrepreneur Lai, 42, oversaw the growth of landscaping company Palm in his home country before retiring in May 2014 to focus on private investment.

Palm, which was valued at £1.8bn on the Chinese stock exchange, has contributed to the takeover.

The deal was agreed in June and is dependent on approval from the Financial Conduct Authority and the Premier League.

Fellow Midlands clubs Aston Villa and Wolves have also been taken over by Chinese investors this summer.

I anticipate this will be a monumental disaster

He's hardly giving a loud battle cry. Basically 'I'm not going to change anything'.

His investment will be negligible. We're already seeing a similar takeover at Villa - no net spend to speak of, get all the high earners off the books, try and stay up / get promoted as cheaply as possible.

That being said, with Villa they've bought one of the most important things for that division - guaranteed goals. Would love to know how many sides have won the Championship in last few years without a 20+ goal a season striker, maybe even 25+.

For West Brom, I think they will remove Pulis and get quite a cheap manager in - which is counter productive to staying up but will get the fans onside

3 losses and Bruce will be in.

"First and foremost, our goal is to ensure that we remain in the Premier League... My plan is to add to, rather than radically change the workings of the Club."

Absolutely nothing for WBA fans to get excited about then.

Another example of simply looking to steady the ship with as little investment as possible, to then reap the rewards when selling down the line.

If they ludicrously get rid of Pulis who'll almost certainly retain the status quo for them, then I can easily see relegation being the outcome.
