he is an Evertonian playing for man u. no expectations of him, no thoughts of `what if.....` i thought he would stay with us, the idea of him playing for someone else was too painful to contemplate, i probably kidded myself but its a defence mechanism coz when Everton hurt, i do too. i`m a dreamer- so sue me.

I do dream that he'll squeeze hundreds of millions out of the Mancs, then come back and buy us.

we were skint when he left, i consoled myself with the thought- `he`ll come back on a free` even tho we needed the ££s and it saved our ass we was robbed soft with that fee- at the time kenwright said he was worth around 50 mil, 6weeks later we got 23mil+add-ons.

I'd love to know the real truth behind the 'I had Wayne on the phone crying, pleading to me, saying I've got to leave Liverpool' story. In truth, even at that time the lad had plenty of money and wouldn't have to be anywhere near the city, save for matchdays. Didn't sit well with me.

Im the same age as Wayne and it hurt so much when he left. I have never got so exited over football as when he was with us. It even made England games fantastic to watch. The euros was amazing, one of our own bossing the tournament - I reckon England could've won if he hadnt got injured against portugal.

While he was with us he played football how I would've wanted to play if I got thrust into the first team. Tearing around the pitch and inspiring his team mates and fans. In a way he seems to have lost that by going to Utd but he is probably a more effective player.

I was initially very bitter and hated him when he left and abused him at games - but this was me being 18 and couldnt understand why any Everton fan would want to leave Everton. Him scoring a hattrick on debut in CL against Fenerbache and celebrating made me cry - I could not believe that he did not want to stay and at least give it a bit of a go - he could always leave at 24. But now I'm a bit older I can appreciate the fact that he wanted to push himself and you push yourself by playing with the best players from an earliest age possible.

I have totally forgiven him now and I look back at the Rooney times with a lot of nostalgia and pride that Everton have produced one of the best players in the world.

Just remembered, it was said he would be the first 100 million pound player, so 25 million was a disappointing[/QUOTE didnt leeds get 32 for large mouth rio ,another boss deal bill dun for us 25 mill, for the greatest talent this country has seen in the last 20 years

Not a great deal looking back, but to be fair, at the time it seemed fair, he hadn't been playing his best and we needed the funds to rebuild the team.
