Saw the other thread talking about Wayne Rooney in the Everton board and it got me thinking, I had never really seen him play for Everton being to young and would really like people thoughts on Wayne Rooneys time at Everton.

What he made you feel, buzz, excitement ect. Who he resembled? The first time you thought he would be a star.

Really interested to learn abou the excitement he gave all other evertonians, I know hes left but the memories are still there and I would really like to hear some thanks.

I was only 9 when he scored the goal against Arsenal but I do remember it. I'm not sure whether I was watching the game live or just watching match of the day without knowing the scores beforehand (as I used to do) but when he scored I went mental.

You know the feeling you more than likely have about Ross Barkley??

It was twice that (which may sound harsh on Ross, who I am unbelievably excited about) but it was mostly because we were a bit more pants back then, than we are now plus he was a goal scorer

He was used a lot as a sub...a secret weapon that got everyone buzzing.

He'd change a game and just looked a cut above anyone on the pitch on both sides.

It just pure force,.skill, aggression, no fear and ran at any defence

Good point.

Although it says a lot about Barkley when we've got a quality midfield and he still manages to look a cut above the rest!

alright, way to make me feel old.

Rooney was known about for a long time before the mainstream media caught on. He scored some amazing goals in youth football and he revealed his once a blue always a blue t-shirt at youth level.

I remember flying to spain in the summer of 2002 reading an article in 442 magazine about him. He made his debut against spurs opening game of the season, everyone knew he was the real deal, we couldn't wait for him to score....

When he ended arsenals unbeaten run with his first league goal we knew we had the best young player in the world, made you feel proud of him, especially as his youth t-shirt had said he'd never leave....

You had wegner, Ferguson, Bobby Robson saying things like he's the best they've ever seen...

Not sure he's lived up to that yet, especially in the world cup.

Dressing Kai in an everton kit, and being prepared to leave united for city shows that he's only there for professional reasons, his real club is Everton and I'm sure if we'd been taken over like city and looked like we'd be challenging for european cups he would come back in a heartbeat.

Some fans are still a little bitter at the way he left and also the way he responded to some abuse by kissing uniteds badge...

I think (although they won't admit it) most fans would forgive if he came back

I'd have him back without a seconds thought. It makes me want to cry the thought of how good we'd be with him.

I remember I was on holidays with my parents when I was 14, when my dad brought a paper back an he said there was a boy Wayne Rooney on the bench today against Southampton, he said he had heard that this boy was an unbelievable talent.

From that day we both followed his football which I remember the youth cup final which I watched just to see what he was like (I was young then I wasnt interested in the academy). He scored I think the only goal for Everton in one leg in which we lost I think, it was a header at the back post. That final didnt show that much from him although he smacked the woodwork a couple of times but it did show glimpses of his raw talent, power, touch, enthusiasm. It was the game though in which he showed the 'once a blue, always a blue' t-shirt, which gave me massive hope from such a young footballer.

After that the first game which I remember him was the Arsenal game, I remember we were drawing at the time, I was up my local club having a game of pool watching soccer saturday when I heard he was coming on as a sub, my hopes immediately went up. Then late in the game it came up he scored that winner against Arsenal and I remember someone saying Wayne Rooney has officially anounced himself to the premiership with a wonder goal.

After this he was known, the big managers were praising him highly. He was my favourite footballer instantly, Rooney with 18 on the back of my next top, I opened up my first email address when I was 16, it includes number 18 because of him, he gave every Evertonian hope.

I would still love for him to come back, he made his decisions he was young at the time and he has always been wreckless at times. His real team in his heart is Everton and I truly believe he will one day be back in the top he loves.

As for comparing Ross to him, we do have a much better team now but Ross still out performed most when he played, he is as big a talent in my opinion with not as much hype around him, which is a good thing. Hopefully he can develop at Everton not Man utd.

From the age of five I had a season ticket at Goodison - until my parents moved our family to New Zealand when I was 16.

The last game I went to at Goodison before we left the country was when he scored that goal.

Handing over my season ticket at the box office was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do in my whole life.

After having watched years of awful, scrappy football as we fought for our lives and then leaving knowing that we had a boy of such talent in our team - it was bittersweet to say the least.

Anyone who saw three men walking down Goodison Road in tears that day - it was because we knew we were not coming back, and we were walking away from what seemed like a bright new dawn for the club.

It may not have worked out exactly as we all hoped, but Rooney completely changed the modern history of this club, first via his performances, then with the fee we got for him. Without him... well I hate to think where we'd be. With him... we could be somewhere else entirely.

This, except it was probably more like that multiplied by 9276327117816813237 . No disrespect to Barkley but Rooney was something else. The stories about him scoring the winner against Arsenal and going home to play street footy in Croxteth with his mates just made him such an idol for me, as I was only a kid at the time.

He,s a prize bellend, but i still believe he bleeds blue. That goal made laugh and cry at the same, never thought that was possible.

*Think Ross can be sensational aswell !!*
