Agree mate, the most enjoyable tournament to watch recently was Euro 2008, no media circus around England and teams that could actually play football...I used too. Loved watching England. They've let me down so often now that I couldn't give a flying fig. I know some footballers strive to get called up for the recognition, but I hope none of our lads ever play for the National team now. Just more ways of getting injured (McCarthy and Coleman for instance). Can't even get up for a World Cup nowadays unfortunately. Glad Wayne has called it a day. He's done as much as he can.
So scoring in his first two league games and being rather ace so far is cringey and embarassing?Almost everything Rooney has said or done since his return has made me nauseous and cringe with embarrassment but this is spot on.
Great to see and gives me hope that I may again one day come to tolerate the man!
I am a bit surprised by this as Rooney previously stated he would retire after the World Cup. It probably is good news for us though, plenty of players who retire from internationals go on to have careers into their late 30's
On 'Sky' I heard quite a few ex-players talking about Rooney, but none better than someone I never rated Sven Goran Eriksson
say that the gobshite Southgate should have talked him round. But the best by far was Lineker who told the truth : Rooney
was the only World class player in Englands team when he was playing. Thank God someone had the bottle to say it.
I get the impression he has had enough of the circus that has been his life for the last 15 years. Not that he hasnt enjoyed it, and has obviously been well rewarded for his talent, but to me, this move, and the move back to Everton, just says to me he wants to play football. Nowt else. For Everton.
In other words, he is happy and content.
Bit like me. Realised I was ok financially for life, given a fair wind, kids all sorted, so no need for the pressure and stress of my old life. So did something else, for less money, but a far better life.
