Watford F.C. also adopted the theme in the early 1960s, as it was then manager Bill McGarry's favourite TV programme.[3] It has been played as the players come onto pitch since then. During the rise of the club through the leagues in the 1970s and 1980s, it became associated with the club's success under manager Graham Taylor.

When did we change for just 1 season ..i think it was in the very dark Johnson era

ignore this just found the answer

Former Everton Chairman, Peter Johnson, knows to his cost that the Z-Cars theme is an Everton tradition which cannot be trifled with. In the 1994-95 season, a new Everton theme tune was introduced (Fanfare for the Common Man), and the Z-Cars theme was actually dropped for a period. This brazen attempt to jazz things up by riding roughshod over the views of traditional fans was met with derision and condemnation. Within a few short weeks, the experiment was over, and the magical flute of the Z-Cars theme was re-introduced by Joe Royle when he re-joined the club as manager in November 1994.

Did you not have "Simply the Best" under Mike Walker for a while? (Mr Irony had gone on holiday, paid for by Efan Ekoku presumably) Z Cars theme is boss btw.
We have the Dave Clark Five's "Glad All Over" which Blackpool also use. Not much gladness at Bloomfield road these days..
