I would like to appeal to all true supporters of football to finally correct a glaring injustice that has been a stain on the our game for more than 30 years now.
It concerns a certain incident that has been at the heart of the intense rivalry between our clubs for nearly a third of a century and I, along with many others, believe that the time has now come to remove the thorn from the paw and end, once and for all, this bitter feud between us.
I'm talking of course, about the 83/84 cup final.
First of all, let me say, that Everton won. There's no disputing that. Nobody wants to change that at all. You were the better team on the day. That's agreed. Even though you made Elton cry and even though I had a fiver on us to win at 33/1 that I ended up having to sadly burn in the pub ashtray that evening, it's not that is at the heart of the stinging injustice that still burns at the heart of myself and many others to this day.
The matter I'm referring to concerns the supposed "goal" scored by the mysognist bully Andrew "Andy" Gray. You'll no doubt be aware that the shameless braggart Gray boasts extensively of his "cup final winning goal", whilst carefully avoiding mention of the fact that his contribution merely involved charging head down and full pelt at our keeper like some sort of deranged bull and barging him and the ball he was holding into the back of the net.
Our campaign calls for a rewrite of the record books to finally expunge and delete Gray's demented effort from history once and for all. I'm sure it's not something decent Everton fans are proud of and I would emphasise once more that, you would still have won the cup of course. Just 1-0 rather than 2-0. If our campaign is succesful it will make absolutely no difference to the overall result, it will simply correct the injustice and put a long overdue halt to Gray's sickening boasts.
Many supporters of other teams have joined the campaign and we plan to present a petition to the FA sometime during this year asking for the records to be rewritten.
I really feel that it would add extra weight to our campaign if decent Everton fans were to come on board and join us.
