Watches....

I have more than a passing interest in Horology. Some of the early 18th Century clocks were engineering miracles of their era, incredible craftsmanship.

I own a couple of nice automatic watches, they're something that I enjoying owning and wearing and a quality watch barely devalues over time.

Now I've never really given much attention to the mechanical Watch, it just tells the time, but just recently I decided to try to understand the key principles and mechanical workings of the wrist watches that I no longer even bother to wear.

I have to say that I am now captivated by the engineering and beauty incorporated in making these devices. I also now understand the reason for the expense for some of these. While there is a degree of wearing a name or a piece of bling on your wrist, with all the celebrities more enamoured by the price than the quality, there is no doubting the engineering and artistic skills required to produce a timepiece.

I watched a programme about Philippe Dufour and how he individually makes every single mechanical part within his watches, each one unique.....

I will never look at a Watch the same again.........

I casually (as it can get expensive, quickly) collect old mechanical pocket watches; started a thread on it years and years ago. There's just something about them that's, no pun intended...timeless.

I started with a Tag Heuer at about 16 I think then used that for almost a decade, just changing the strap.

Then I jumped into a Vacheron Constantin which I sold off as I was worried someone would cut my wrist off for it in one of the SE Asian countries lol

How much do 'impressive' watches cost these days? Something mechanical which looks sexy to the female eye (that's the only reason I would buy one)...
