Was thinking of treating myself to a new watch, not sure if to go with a known name like Tag Longines or an up and coming brand like Christopher Ward. The likes of Rolex and Omega are out of my price range about £3000, was wondering is any of you watch enthusiast have other ideas.

I bought myself a TAG about 7 odd years ago, it was for sale in standard shops for 2500 but got it for 1850 on interweb.

It is still beautiful and I love it but just remember if you buy an automatic the costs don't stop at purchase, the winder has given in so at somepoint i'm going to have to lash near £500 on a service, for a watch. Yes you read that right five hundred pounds. Gulp.

Conversely, think of the money Sky/BT will bring in with everyone sat at home every weekend rather than going the game.

Never thought about serving, is it that expensive because of the winder or is that the cost anyway.

I have the Omega 42” seamaster or something. Nice watch. Not Rolex prices but still a nice looking watch. I need to buy another as I have two boys and when I pop my clogs, I don’t want them arguing over it. My second one will be a Daytona tho. I love those watches.
I have had a submariner and a tag, both of which I got mugged for. I haven’t had much luck with watches but hey ho.

Depends what your price range is, to be honest. Most watches (incliuding Tag and Breitling) aren't worth what you pay for them. With the super expensive watches (Rolex and IWC) you are paying for the movement and this tends to be what makes the watch hold its value.

If you don't want to pay for a Rolex, just buy a watch that you like the look of. They're all pretty much the same as a timepeice.

For dress watches I would suggest Longines or Raymond Weil. A budget of £3000 will get you a lovely automatic, possibly with a winder thrown in.

Tag Heuer and Omega are pretty, but are more sports watches for me.

Have you considered a preloved Rolex Datejust? If you look about I'm sure you could find a 5 digit one for around 3k.

The Datejust is the ultimate dress watch for me.

I prefer the oyster perpetual....

Can't accept the bubble over the date on the other watches. Ruins the watch for me.
