Was Van Gaal's sacking the death knell of the F.A. Cup?

It's like the domestic equivelant of international weekends for me, don't care about it at all... Seems like a waste of a good weekend of premier league football.

At least with the league cup they run it during mid week (up until the final) so you still get your hit of premier league at the weekend.

The fact you often can't find a stream for fa cup games makes it even more unappealing.

The good news is we are only going to be truly inconvenienced once in this fashion,

In the midweek after the 4th Round we have a game away to Stoke....so that won't seem too bad.

And we have games against teams already eliminated scheduled for the weekends of both the 6th Round and the semi finals (Baggies and Hammers)

That just leaves one proper gap of "international break" proportions to come.....the weekend they have the 5th Round in February.

It will still be awful though

The third round of the FA cup was the most magical day in the footie calendar for me.
You sweated on getting a home tie and you were guaranteed a full house. Goodison packed to the rafters in 1966.
It's all gone now, 6000 at Hull was a disgrace.
I have to reluctantly agree it is a sideshow for the PL now.

Semi finals at wembley, just awful....takes gloss right off the final...like the suggestion that the winner gets a CL spot

Agree. Especially about the Semi Finals.

The real fix for the Champions league would be to only allow the Champions of each country in it and re-start the Cup Winners Cup, but the money men won't allow that - so the next best option would be to do as you say, put the FA Cup winners in the Champions league - they've actually won something so have more of a right to be there than the 2nd, 3rd and 4th placed teams in the league.
