Was Moyes treated unfairly at ManU?

Now that Van Gaal has had a full season under his belt plus a summer transfer window, do you think he's done any better than what Moyes could have done?

Lets look at the facts -

Moyes 7th 19 wins 64 points
Van Gaal 4th 20 wins 70 points

Moyes major signings - Fellaini, Mata (Jan)
Van Gaal major signings - Herrera, Di Maria, Falcao, Schneiderlin, Martial, Schweinsteiger

To be perfectly honest, nobody was ever going to get as much out of the squad as Fergie, he always seem to make players play above their capabilities. I think Moyes underachieved a lot, though he was learning the ropes with his first Champions League campaign and the fact they hardly got any signings.

Van Gaal though seems really rigid with his tactics and they aren't playing any better than what they did under Moyes. They've barely beaten Tottenham and Villa this season and drew with Newcastle and lost to Swansea.

I respect what Van Gaal did at the world cup with Netherlands but he seems like a poor week to week coach. He played Di Maria out of position, turned Herrera into a shadow of what he's capable of, and Falcao a top 5 striker in the world (while on the recovery) had no service. Also his signings are curious to say the least - Martial? Schweinsteiger? Schneiderlin? and they get continually rejected by putting in tame offers for the best players and overpaying for players others are happy to sell.

So to sum it up, yes Moyes got ousted pretty quick and unfairly in my opinion, because he never won anything, and he couldn't live up to Fergie's shadow. The players were quick to scheme and get rid of him yet his replacement is hardly doing any better.

He never had a chance...damned if he did, damned if he didn't. It was a joke.

He deserved the piping down he got IMO though cause he held us back at the end of the day.

Martinez also never had a chance with our lot...and still doesn't with a faction of our fans.

Both situations were very similar/tough.

Those Man U fans are an entitled lot. They said they would give him the benefit of the doubt to learn the ropes, but that sentiment disappeared within two months. The media also had a massive witch hunt and let it snowball out of control.

With Martinez he got found out last year when he didn't have a plan B. I think the fans were right to criticize footballing decisions on the pitch because last year was way below the high expectations that were set from the initial campaign but of course you get some idiots that just go way too far and that really pisses me off. So far though from the four games this year, I think Martinez has righted the ship somewhat. What I hate though is that there are always a section of fans that pop up when things don't go well. Moyes had them here at Everton and Martinez does too. I'm happy to entertain their serious discourse but sometimes the remarks are just downright nasty and uncalled for.

Most probably was. Im suprised he got the chop so early after all the confidence shouts he was gettin from feguson. Just shows the owners dont give two goats about what ferguson says anymore.

He will be back in england next year at a lower premier league club and will work his magic of keeping them up and finding timmy cahills for 2 mill.

He took over a side that pissed the league, and then finished 7th.

Van Gaal took over a side that finished 7th, and took them back to the Champions League.

It's also not just about the stats, it's about personality and playing style.

Moyes and his "We'll make it hard for Newcastle..." ahead of Newcastle going to Old Trafford.

He was always going to succeed Ferguson, and he was always going to fail.

agree. LVG is a bell and not a very good one at that.

Moyes is a manager who builds gradually. LVG has thrown everything positive United did before him, all the structure and culture United had built up has gone. Moyes to his credit didn't do that, and was looking to build upon it.

LVG has basically turned them into City over the space of 12 months. However they don't have City's money and have lost any authenticity in the process. Their team is nowhere near as strong as City's either. They also have a manager who has failed at every big club he's been at (in a far bigger way than they did with Moyes).

United fans lapped it up. They called for Moyes's head and welcomed the big spending. They will rue the consequences of it. The other day my brother said they are becoming reminiscent of Liverpool in the 90's. I couldn't agree more really.

I was never a big fan of Moyes, but having said that, I will give him a lot of credit for the job he did in stabilising us, making us competitive, often hard to beat, occasionally very good to watch - but, ultimately, he was not and is not a winner in the way that an SAF, Jesse Mourinho, even a Wenger were/are.

I'll never get over nor forgive him the deplorable, negative tactics he employed away to Sporting Lisbon - trying to defend a 2-1 lead.
Well over 6,000 of us went to Benfica for that tonking and not long after, upwards of 4,000 returned to Lisbon for the Sporting game... and that to me, was a more embarrassing humiliation than the Benfica loss.

Sorry to put it this way, but he made his own bed at OT...

Whoever took over from Fergusan was going to struggle in that first season. They hardly "pissed the league" the year before anyway. They won it, largely on the back of Van Persie scoring loads of goals. During that season Chelsea players were in open revolt against their manager, Liverpool had Rodgers, Mancini lost the dressing room at City, and Arsenal ballsed it up with his signings.
Essentially the league was handed on a plate to United.

Moyes had to face Chelsea under Mourinho, Arsenal having bought Ozil, City were very strong again, as well as rejuvenation of Everton and Liverpool. Without the goals of Van Persie that season, facing what Moyes faced, United probably would have finished 4/5th in the league. There was no way they were overcoming Chelsea and City, and probably not Liverpool or Arsenal either.

Moyes was always going to have to try and move out the deadwood and rebuild. He was starting that process quite well. Fellaini has proved an astute buy, Herrera is a great player and Mata has been a very good signing. Van Gaals buys on Di Maria, Falcao have been unmitigated disasters, and I have little faith in Depay and Martial.

In the end though, United have lost their authenticity and become a bit of a side show under Van Gaal. It will not end well.

I'd disagree. They "pissed it". Here's the table after 30 games...

Really?

:Blink::confused:

Read somewhere Mark Lawrensen - who happens to be good pals with Moyes - saying that Moyes had a 2 year 'silence' of sorts written into his contract, meaning he couldn't take about his time in charge for two years. Will be interesting to hear what he has to say about the way he was treated.

When Ferguson went. David Gill went as well. Ed Woodward came in and certainly didn't help him with transfers. He really shot himself in the foot though with the backroom staff changes. Pxssed a lot of the players off, etc.
