Was it worth it......

WW2 I think we would've been involved at a later date anyway. Was it worth it? History has proved, it was worth it. WW1 was a game of dare that went too far, which admittedly is how most wars start.

Not sure I really get that WW2 was a good thing. I mean sure Hitler was eventually stopped, but at massive cost, both in terms of the direct cost of the war itself plus the 50 years of communism that resulted from it.

I mean Stalin killed far more people than Hitler did. What's more, we knew full well what Stalin was like because the deliberate starvation of some 3 million Ukrainians happened in the early 1930's, followed in 1937 by the 'great terror', in which another million or so people were shot purely by virtue of their nationality.

That's before we even get into the 30 million or so that were starved by Mao as he followed the Stalinist doctrine of the time.

All of these things were happening before Hitler started pushing his weight around, yet not only did we see fit to get into bed with Stalin, but the war also left us powerless to stop him carving up half of Europe for his awful regime after the war.

I dare say if you asked the millions of people that had to suffer under his, and subsequent, Soviet rule they wouldn't say WW2 was very victorious at all. Out of the frying pan, into the fire springs to mind.

Both wars are a horrible stain on humanity. That such barbarous behaviour could even be conceived is beyond belief.
