The rain, it raineth every day
I went to a wake today remembering an old dear friend. He knew he was dying and had it planned splendidly. None of the usual curled up butties, cups of tea and a respectful atmosphere. Instead, comfort food for the soul, a dj playing loud rock classics from the sixties, barrels of real ale which included Trappers Hat which was superb and a selection of Irish and Scottish whiskeys. If you can have a great time when somebody has died this was it. I've had to leave before I disgrace myself. :)

As the mortal coil comes ever closer it got me wondering how I would organise my wake. How would you do yours ?

I wouldnt want to organise it as such, but my missus will know the sort of thing I would prefer. And likewise.

Had better times at some wakes than most weddings I reckon.

There is a better than an outside chance that I will be involved in sorting one out for me old fella in the next few years, and I am dreading it. Not cos he will have passed, but cos I KNOW what he would like, but other family members would rather not tread the path I will suggest.

Beak and strippers?

I can't be doing with pop music in a crematorium. Give me a couple of old hymns, the more tear-inducing the better. It's a funeral for heaven's sake.
Save the laughs for the bar afterwards.

My Jamaican friend lost his dad and threw a proper street party for the whole.neighbourhood. Was brilliant day. Also went to a rave in a bar for a younger mate.
