Virgin media bitching that they can't show Saturday 3pm games

Though with that you'd have the difficulty of getting back home from the game especially if you're an away fan. A night spent at the travel lodge in the arse pit of nowhere doesn't sound appealing.
that's true.

speaking from an armchair perspective, guess that shows

Can't watch a game on tv? Get yourself to the ground then ffs.

This agreement to not show Saturday 3 pm kick off games

Dates back to 1992. It relates to trying to protect attendances.

It also lowers the tv right values to the likes of BT and SKY who out bid Virgin for the tv rights in the first place.

For me the 3pm kick off's should not be shown. It may well work in other foreign leagues but our football pyramid has a lot more depth compared to those. We have a major football league and non-league structure in place who are already struggling with the Premier League taking all the money. If we then show these games live at 3pm, say for example the 250 fans that go to watch Lowestoft in the Vanarama conference North league, how many of those would rather stay in the warmth of their own home on a cold December afternoon rather than going to the game? I think opening up these games opens a whole other can of worms.

For me personally there is already an over saturation of football on TV at the moment. As much as i love the game i'm not sure i want every game of the PL league live on TV.

This is before we even get into the realms of how you divvy up the TV rights. At the moment if you wanted to watch all PL league games on TV you would have to subscribe to two packages, add Virgin that's three and with so many more games on offer who knows how many more companies will want a piece of the PL pie. Instead of it benefiting the average football fan in my opinion it would have the opposite effect, having to find more cash with more channels offering the football.

For me there are too many reasons not to show these games for the benefits of the fans being out of pocket and lower league clubs also being out of pocket

There us a definite disconnect between match going fans and those who, for whatever reason, are watching on TV.

I no longer travel away but IMO the thought of Saturday night kick offs is horrible for those who do travel.

In fact, it is not even away fans as such.....many home fans at Goodison travel long distances and they are rushing for trains to London or planes to Belfast and Dublin after a Saturday or Sunday afternoon kick off.

There us enough disruption to the calendar as it is.....enough inconvenience for those who actually go the game and without whose presence and vocal contribution live football would soon lose its appeal to both TV companies and their viewers.

We have few enough Saturday 3 pm matches without letting Virgin cut down on them.

I was in favour a couple of weeks ago when a similar discussion was brought up but having thought about it it would be nonsensical IMO.

The only way I'd be in favour of a Saturday 3 pm KO being shown on TV would be if it replaced the Saturday 12.45 game or 5.30 game.
