Virgin media bitching that they can't show Saturday 3pm games

An investigation into how the Premier League sells its domestic broadcast rights for matches has been launched by Ofcom.

Ofcom, the body which regulates the UK communications industry, received a complaint from Virgin Media in September.

"Ofcom may conduct an investigation where there are reasonable grounds for suspecting that there is an agreement which has as its object or effect the prevention, restriction or distortion of competition within the UK and/or the EU," it said.

Virgin Media is the complainant behind the investigation after claiming that not enough top-flight matches are made available for live screening.

Ofcom, the regulating body for the UK communications industry, said it understood the importance of 15:00 GMT kick-offs on Saturdays to football fans and will be speaking to supporters' groups.

Can't watch a game on tv? Get yourself to the ground then ffs.

It's telling that those who support the idea of 3pm games being televised in the main are supporters of the Sky 4.

Think the complaint is that they want more games and are being told they are being played at 3pm instead.

Need less, not more games televised IMO

Spoken like a true ARF season ticket holder. There are those who are unable to attend the game, y'know.

3pm isn't the holy grail it once was. Its a piece of cake to log on and find a stream for all Sat 3pm games these days. Much better if it was properly available through normal means.

Aye, i find it hard to get the game myself. But the more games you televise the less the importance of going the game becomes. As much as we would all love to go the game every week, there are those who would rather sit at home and watch it for a nominal fee. the more you pander to that crowd the more future generations will be like that.

Of course there is more money in football, pushing wages and transfers up, bankrupting teams, destroying lower league football and increasing the monopolizing of the top of the league.

:)

I dunno, there are folk who live for the live atmosphere and will never give up their season ticket. Clubs like Newcastle will always have a full house even if you were to broadcast their games live on BBC every week.

I'd be interested to see how many games each club actually plays at 3pm Saturday each season. I reckon a successful EL side would easily play less than 50%.

It is a shame its going like that. Once i start being able to go the game and take my son (or/and daughter) with me id prefer to go on a saturday at 3, or a tuesday at 8 (first ever game was) and that is it. Not sure if i could be arsed thinking about it with the 'what time are we going to goodison this week dad?' 'no idea son, lets check the news'

Tuesday 8pm - stuff of legends that mate. Same here, Spurs, Tuesday night in early 1987, Derek Mountfield with the winner. Fantastic.

We need loads more midweek leagues if you ask me. Soccernight.

Mine was Forest 94. Got beat 2-0 and it was pissing down lol

Still remember walking through the park though and seeing the place for the first time.

No one done a "If Branson trials this the service will probably crash" joke yet? That to one side, have the tv companies had a whip round to save the clubs that went to the wall after the ITV digital deal fell through? After all, they picked up the scraps after didn't they? Corporate responsibility is no responsibility at all. (Business huh!)
Not heard a great deal about the Sky Euro Football package (Is it Sky Sports 5 or similarly named dross?), which if any tv companies are pressuring having the euro's and wc's removed from free to air?
Theres profit to be had.

Which is completely ridiculous considering they only have to play a handful of non televised games per season. Liverpool were on TV every game from new year until like mid October this year!

I think that you should pay your club a fee and then you can stream away games through the website

It's fair enough saying "get down the match" but some clubs will only give out 1-2 thousand tickets for away supporters. Why shouldn't those supporters not lucky enough to get a ticket miss the match? Let them watch it online, through the clubs website. Most Evertonians won't go to see another club when the Blues are away. They'll want to watch the match
