Villa sign Given .

He probaly had three years left at City on about £80k a week that's £12.5m in wages.

He wouldnt have wanted to take a pay cut but Villa wouldnt pay him £80k a week so £50k a week on a five year deal adds up to about £13m so Given isnt losing out financially.

Eh, he's three years older and never really impressed me that much. And we don't have £3.5 million.

I haven't really given thought to the logistics. I've just always wanted us to sign Given, but it looks like he'll probably end his career at Villa now.

Agree with that, link up with Dunne as well so transition shouldn't be so bad. Strange side Villa, they have seen all sorts of money for the likes of Barry, Milner, Young and now Downing. Only spent on Bent. Did McLeish ever spend big at Brum? They are looking at wholesale changes there this summer, Petrov and Delph seem to be the only senior names I can recall in midfield,
Just looking at the outs now
Friedel
Cuellar
Downing
Young
Reo-Coker
Pires
And Everton fans are wetting their nickers about us having made no moves yet.

Randy Lerner seems like his heart's in the right place. He spent quite big to begin with, but I think he's been feeling the pinch and has needed to real things in over the last season or two.

Given is a good signing. He was actually unlucky to lose his place to Hart.

I really rate some of Villa's youngsters, especially Albrighton. They have got a rebuilding job on though. If money's tight, then can try and get Ireland's career back on track. Same with Warnock, who went from second-choice England fullback to reserve team fodder. McLeish has certainly got a job on.
