Vietnam v Cuba

Thinking of one or the other for next year as have never really travelled outside Europe and top two places I want to go to.

Still amazing despite it becoming more touristy in the last 20 years

Everything is so cheap over there as well, although i imagine its the same in Cuba

Vietnam's fantastic. People are incredibly warm and genuine. Climate great. Food superb. Prices next to nothing.

Never been to Cuba but would love to go.

What a great two choices of countries you are making.

And we really think we are superior...(sorry, bit of politics there...)

Not sure which is better, but if you want to see Cuba, probably best to go there before it's become Westernized.

Vietnam was one of the prettiest countries I visited in SE Asia, but easily the most cynical. Unlike Thailand and Malaysia who had the tourist thing down pat, and Cambodia who were clumsy in their overtures but lovely folk, the Vietnamese seemed solely focused on ripping you off at every turn. Usually using the dual currency system as a way to screw you over.

Good suits in Hoi An, though.

Not denying your experience about them trying to rip you off but it wasn't mine..

I found it the total opposite. Thailand, especially Bangkok, was awful.

Thought Vietnam was the least 'scammy' of the lot. Although still quite bad by western standards.

Cambodia was fine other - an attempted bag grab.
