Player Valuation: £40m
I know this overlaps with the K9 thread a bit, but wanted to have a go as I'd like to build somewhat of an understanding of why we play 3-5-1 with 'chebechebe, and now with him rumoured to be off for three months and Saha always being off, how do you rate the players that we could play up front? What does each one bring to the game?
-- Strikers
Saha - A proven Premiership striker with injury problems occuring so often that he's always out of form. Has a decent technique, shot, and heading abilities. Doesn't do well up alone.
Vellios - Good technique, shot, finds a pass, tall but unproven at PL. Could be someone that might play as the lone striker.
Stracqualursi - Unproven, has a good shot in him aswell as a decent heading ability. Could be someone that might play as the lone striker.
Guaye - Unproven, only played for us on the wing so far. Haven't made up my mind on him yet, seen glimpses of good and glimpses of bad. Nicknamed the black McFadden.
McAleny - An unexperienced agile tiny bugger, seems to be creative enough but his physical attributes might restrict his appearances.
-- Anichebe
Anichebe - Big, clumsy, not much of a balance, vision or shot. 'One for the future' but deployed often in the present, thus having a lot of PL experience. Doesn't do well. Nicknamed the black Messi.
-- Miffielders
Cahill - A handful, deadly in the air. Brings in fighting spirit, but isn't creative and highly dependent on Baines' crosses. Experienced but getting older and more injury prone. Normally plays behind the striker and often considered to be one in the role.
Fellaini - Tall, did an ok job a few years back up front I guess, but can't really he'd best serve the team up front. Also can't remember any of his better appearances up front.
As many others I'd personally go with Saha, Vellios or Stacqualursi as I don't see what Fellaini & co bring up front, but someone likely understands why Moylez keeps playing them up front and could shed some light on the issue as well as flaws in my school of thought which states that strikers should be deployed where strikers are needed.
