Player Valuation: £40m
I know this overlaps with the K9 thread a bit, but wanted to have a go as I'd like to build somewhat of an understanding of why we play 3-5-1 with 'chebechebe, and now with him rumoured to be off for three months and Saha always being off, how do you rate the players that we could play up front? What does each one bring to the game?

-- Strikers

Saha - A proven Premiership striker with injury problems occuring so often that he's always out of form. Has a decent technique, shot, and heading abilities. Doesn't do well up alone.

Vellios - Good technique, shot, finds a pass, tall but unproven at PL. Could be someone that might play as the lone striker.

Stracqualursi - Unproven, has a good shot in him aswell as a decent heading ability. Could be someone that might play as the lone striker.

Guaye - Unproven, only played for us on the wing so far. Haven't made up my mind on him yet, seen glimpses of good and glimpses of bad. Nicknamed the black McFadden.

McAleny - An unexperienced agile tiny bugger, seems to be creative enough but his physical attributes might restrict his appearances.

-- Anichebe

Anichebe - Big, clumsy, not much of a balance, vision or shot. 'One for the future' but deployed often in the present, thus having a lot of PL experience. Doesn't do well. Nicknamed the black Messi.

-- Miffielders

Cahill - A handful, deadly in the air. Brings in fighting spirit, but isn't creative and highly dependent on Baines' crosses. Experienced but getting older and more injury prone. Normally plays behind the striker and often considered to be one in the role.

Fellaini - Tall, did an ok job a few years back up front I guess, but can't really he'd best serve the team up front. Also can't remember any of his better appearances up front.

As many others I'd personally go with Saha, Vellios or Stacqualursi as I don't see what Fellaini & co bring up front, but someone likely understands why Moylez keeps playing them up front and could shed some light on the issue as well as flaws in my school of thought which states that strikers should be deployed where strikers are needed.

Nicely done S.M.F.

I don't see Vellios, Gueye or McAleny getting much time at all, especially not starting roles * cue them all being up front on Saturday

Fellaini and Cahill have scored a number of goals for Everton, fudging them up front and moving other experienced players into their void in the midfield will always look a better option to Davey Moyes than playing inexperienced young strikers, I'm postitive of that

Anichebe - seems to be out for a while.....I'll refrain from adding any more comments on him for now

Saha is currently our best striker by a country mile. His fitness is vital to our season, well until January at least when we go and blow all that cash lying around on another striker (add joke here)

As you've said, we tend to play 4-5-1 of some sorts, this isn't ideal for Louis, so we really need Straq to be some sort of Wizard. He appears to have the build to play that role, so fingers crossed it doesn't take him the inevitable season to find his feet like all of the other Argentinian strikers I can think of......Tevez did not start well at all, Crespo, Boselli, Fuertes, I'm sure there are tonnes of others

Nah, Ricky Villa, scored a brace in the cup final for spurs in his first year didn't he?

Sava at fulham too as I'm grasping at straws.

Ahh the more famous, obvious Villa (d'oh)....the one at Derby was really bad

I can only base my small knowledge on what I've seen of Ricky Villa - that one goal, but yes I'm sure he was more of a player than just that, my thought is flawed already. Hopefully Stracqualursi won't go missing when it gets pretty cold anyway, if he can play with Saha or without him on his own, it should certainly give us something to look forward to. With Baines's crosses, hopefully he'll be heading goals in for fun, Big Dunc style

I hope Straq starts up front but I am fearful it will be Cahill (if fit)/ Fellaini partnership.

I'm afraid it's the Cahill-Fellaini combo too. I'm pretty sure Cahill won't be able to play in all the games while Anichebe is away, neither is Fellaini injury proof, so I'd love to give the kids a try. At the bare minimum it'll result in having less inexperienced options. Can't be any worse than giving Saha a year to find form only to get injured three weeks later.

I think it's considerable that we might have games with three of Anichebe, Cahill, Fellaini and Saha more or less injured simultaniously.

It's a shame I haven't really seen enough to warrant proper suggestions as alternatives.

I am suprised we are not prepared to try using vellios or Stracqa up front given that we were more than happy to put Vic up there on his own a couple of weeks ago! Surely they cannot do THAT badly
