His achievements significantly eclipse Hamilton's in motorsport
he did it on different bikes, not always the best bikes, had the balls to go to Ducati when they were crap and had the team done what he asked with it, the results may have been there on them. He's done great things in bringing on younger riders and supports the sport at lower levels with the VR46 team. A true great

And he lives and pays his taxes in the UK too.

oh yeah, I forgot that,. He was quoted in saying he likes living in London as he can go about his business largely unrecognised.

Great this. So what you are saying is that he's a likeable, legendary motorsports person who is humble, avoids attracting attention where possible, pays his taxes in the UK and isn't a Tory go-karter?

A real novelty. Enjoy your retirement Valentino.

Shame to see you go after Hamilton like this. Putting his achievements to one side, coming from a (relatively) under privileged background and making it to where he is based on talent, surrounded by rich sons-of-billionaires.

All the stuff about him being an attention seeker and obsessing with his clothes and relationships......it all seems a bit Souness vs. Pogba to me. (not aiming this at you but it's an argument i see a lot). I am sure that when he was growing up in F1 he had to police his behaviour a lot due to his race, so I don't blame him for revelling in his fame now.

???????

I am celebrating Rossi here.

Raised the bar in the 2000s and did for MotoGP what Steve Davis did for snooker. Er, is that a good analogy?

But last 10 years he's basically been surpassed by riders whom he himself largely inspired.

Incredible rider with incredible career achievements, a nice guy too by all accounts. Doesn’t change the fact everyone I know with a bike is an absolute gimp who either a) feels the need to Rev it when stationary for no reason b) put pics of it parked up in a field under a sunset with some other leather clad Texan.

I feel better for getting that off my chest.

Inappropriate Language

Being a dick isn’t revelling in your fame, it is being a dick.

Not interested in comparing the two as they don't even play the same sport. It's hard enough to compare within a single sport. But Rossi has actually been done for tax evasion just FYI.

Anyway, phenomenal racer, only reason I ever paid even the slightest bit of attention to MotoGP. I'm always surprised when I occasionally have a look at MotoGP to see that he is still racing. I imagine must be racing against a bunch of people now that are only in the sport because of his influence.

He really is the GOAT, no question about it. No one will ever come close to what he did for Motorcycling again.
