Ok. So I've gotten fed up of some Chinese piece of junk I purchased from Maplin.

I'm thinking the maplin piece of junk has always been faulty. Its also not Displaylink certified. Its caused nothing but problems.

and gone for a HP USB 2.0 adaptor for a work related PC needing a dual screen.

Thoughts? For those that know anything about Displaylink adaptors.

This one is certified by displaylink.

Normal computer uses dual NVIDIA cards in SLI with DVI or HDMI ports with three screens in portrait surround. Much easier and reliable!

This is for another workstation needing another screen for reading.

For 50 GBP, I feel like you could just get a super low-end graphics card for that last monitor. Cheaper and better solution than USB2. If you're out of full length/16x PCIe slots, here's a suggestion:

Not all graphics cards are compatible and this PC is in a mini tower Hence why an external adapter needed.

Understand what you're saying. In my tower I have multiple graphics cards 2 DVI 2HDMI and 2 VGA ports

Ahhh, accursed minitower. Even if you just had DisplayPort, the Surface Pro 3 can do 3-head (built in screen, and two on a daisy chain) with one DisplayPort.

I know there have been concepts for external graphics cards over the years, but I don't think any of them have ever ended up making it to market. Tech really wasn't feasible until Thunderbolt, and now even the on-die GPU's are can handle almost all use cases, so the business case for them is basically gone.

What do you think to this HP adapter?

Do you think it will solve the problem with the maplin junk. E.g. drop outs on power down/up ; restart etc.

If you are using a minitower, check the make of your PSU, because drawing too much current through a cheap and nasty one can eventually lead to the blue flash and loud pop of a busted system.

Hell of a set of kit to be doing a bit of reading. When you are playing puter games do you hire out the local Imax?
