United v Liverpool media circus

It's that time of the season again when the media (and SAF) like to make Liverpool feel like they're still a big club by talking the fixture up as a clash between 'arch rivals'. The truth is, though, that United really have to reach down deep into the memory bank these days to even come up with a reason they should take the Kopites seriously anymore. I know for our friend nev on this forum it's a real nailbiter of a fixture because he's of an age to remember when it meant something, but the truth is it's about as credible a rivalry now as United v Royal Engineers or United v Corinthians.

Hilarious media blitz coming up on all this. I'll be delighted if United batter them like, because it means so much to the Kopites to feel like they're on the same planet as United if they get a result. But this fixture's been showing the strain for years of having to be sold as a big match and it's only because we have an OTT SKY Sports controlling football that it hasn't been consigned to the 'big rivalry' history bin years ago.

Sick of hearing and reading about r/s, if the country would just put them on ignore it would wind them up more than anything else.

Maybe the rags could start doing editions that are 'r/s free' for the rest of us.

In fairness to them Ushoited haven't won at the tin mine since 2007.

But yes, the media circus is a load of balls.

Ferguson saying it's bigger than El Classico

He always does. But we all know that SAF never says anything complimentary about clubs that really count as a threat to United. He patronises Liverpool because he got on top of them and ragged the fucking life out of them a long, long time ago. He loves throwing them a few crumbs. This was exactly the sort of thing I had in mind in the OP.

With 11 men a couple of weeks ago, we were obviously more than a match for the deluded gobs***es. Yet people have a blind spot when it comes to the RS because of who they were three decades ago (and a champions league final rescued by their only consistent player in those intervening years). Hansen reckons they should win this game- am I missing something here or will this madness never end?

As stated, Ferguson is very kind to teams he doesn't seem as a threat, like us for example. It's the Scottish Manager club ffs.

United are miles ahead of them and have been for a while. They were convinced that this big new American magic carpet piloted by King Kenny would sweep them to the promised land, and it's turning out anything but.

United v Liverpool is a massive game. Deal with it.

Liverpool, gash as they are, are probably in the top 5 biggest fanbases in the world. Deal with it.

Man United are ace and certainly are in the top 5 biggest fanbases in the world.

This is before we get to the whole Manchester- Liverpool city rivalry. Which is HUGE.

Media circus from a business POV: justified.

Stop ****ing moaning and enjoy the match. This is exactly what Liverpool fans hold against us, threads like these which show bitterness.
