United to sign De Gea

Two things about this:

1 - he's the man to replace Van Der Sar. Wouldn't have been my pick (that Ajax keeper Staklenberg(?) would have been.

2 - why are Athletico selling all their players?

Stekelenburg you mean, would've been my pick also. Van der sar recommended him to SAF himself. Will end up at one of the European topclubs eventually.

Chelsea are also looking to sign a goalkeeper. Apparently made an offer to Racing Genk for their 18 year old wonderkid Thiebaut Courtois. Would've loved him at Everton to eventually take over from (a very ace) Tim Howard.

1 - he is very good and very young, if they have the patience and his brain doesnt go then he can be almost as good as Casillas is

2 - because they, like most of the teams in la liga, are massively in debt (they admitted in Feb 2011 to be 183 million euro in the red, though as with everything Spanish the real figure is probably considerably more). Once upon a time they could just have continued on merrily, but with the spanish economy looking over the abyss (or actually in the abyss plummetting to its death), they probably have to try and sort out a good wedge (you would think Aguero and de Gea would be 100 m - 120 m euro at least) of it now.

De Gea is very good goalkeeper for his age and will only get better at United. I can see him progressing to become the Spainish number 1 when Casillas retires. I think maybe it was always going to be him or Neuer from Schalke.

I think it's a bit of a gamble from ManU, if they expect him to be number 1 from the start. Still, there's no denying his talent.

1. There's no question about his long term potential, but I am not sure if he will be ready right away. Even in Spain he is poor in commanding the area and organization of his defence, he also doesn't really go hard to collect crosses. Plus he was much worse this season than during previous one.
2. Debt plus rebuilding phase in Atletico (Aguero is leaving as well) plus the fact that there is plenty of decent keepers in Spain, Atletico in last 2 years sold two of them: Asenjo to Malaga and Roberto to Benfica (who's doing horribly there btw). I think it will be quite easy for them to find a replacement, for example Guaita will be benched in Valencia (they are getting Diego Alves from Almeria) and he should be a decent pick up for Los Colchoneros.

Good shouts. I've liked the look of Javi Varos at Sevilla too as a young keeper with potential. Now that Deportivo have gone down Dani Aranzubia would be a good pick up for Atletico as a solid experienced keeper

Varas has a decent shot of being a starting keeper next season in Sevilla, so that's why I've left him. But Aranzubia is indeed a good keeper and worthy buy for a Primera Division team.
