Another short preview, Friday matches are not kind to me.

Colombia may have had more flair in Monday's Round of 16 match, but unfortunately for them pretty soccer doesn't win games, putting the ball in the back of the net does. They hung tight for the first half and fought hard after their keeper went down with a red card, but didn't have much product in the final third to bring and the might USWNT ground them down and secured a comfortable win.

Unfortunately for us, we'll be without both Rapinoe and Holiday due to yellow card accumulation. They were questionable bookings, but here we are. Rapinoe especially will be a big loss, as now we go into a match with a quality Chinese side without our top midfielder.

Thankfully though, if there is one strength to a USWNT side that plays a cross happy 4-4-2 that David Moyes would be proud of, it's that we depth for days. And that defense.

How about that defense? The best left in the tournament. One goal in four games. Ace that, sign 'em up Bobby.

The Steel Roses, though, are also stout at the back. This likely won't be a high scoring match. We saw some flashes of ambition outside of launching the ball into the box in the second half vs Colombia, so hopefully that's a sign of better things to come. And besides, they don't have OUR FREEDOMZ.

USA USA USA USA USA USA GOD BLESS THE SUPREME COURT OF THE UNITED STATES

Because if there's one game where everything needs to come together, it's right now. Have we played sides better than China? Yes, but those weren't exactly easy games either. Our last meeting at the 2014 Torneio Internacional was a 1-1 draw, so they can hang with us, no doubt. And who awaits the winner of this match?

Mmmm. Yeah. Either Germany or France. It's class of the tournament from here on out. Time to find those higher gears. Or crank it up to 11. Or whatever metaphor you want to use.

THE YANKS ARE COMING.

Now with a half-functioning universal healthcare system and more rights for same-sex persons.

(And we won't come back 'til it's over over there!)

(Up there?)

(Bah, screw it.)

They looked much better, but Colombia were clearly better at the togger.

China couldn't handle the press...Colombia broke it time after time. Doubt zee Germans will be bothered by the press.

Should be a great game on Tuesday.

The tactics were right
The lineup was probably correct
It was just so devoid of joy and so undeniably Chelseaish

will miss as well. Paraguay v Argentina the second.

missed this as was watching Argentina v Ospina, but texting back and forth with a friend watching. we played a lot better per him, a good sign. Cannot slack vs ze Germans or it will all end in tears.
