there are also bands like Sunn O))) (who you may know)





One thing about this kind of music though, is that it's a completely different experience live. I'd never listen to Merzbow at home, but I have seen plenty like him live and it's quite an experience. Even my girlfriend who (oddly) hates stuff like that, doesn't hate it live at festivals etc.
