under 21s contract expiring

Just seen matthew pennington, jake bidwell, and conor mcalenys contracts are expiring this summer. Anyone know much about them? Wether they will get offered new contracts? Do they deserve them? Any other youth players contracts expiring?

Bidwell and Mcaleny will probably been given a 1 year and 2 year deal.

tore his medial ligament in February, and didn't play again in the season. Part of the reason Tranmere's form nosedived (along with the loss of a couple of loan players and some other injuries)

Isn't he captain or vice-captain at Tranmere? They're investing a lot in that lad, seems to be doing quite well anyway.

I'd be surprised if we let go Bidwell or McAleny, both seem like players worth too much to be released.

Bidwell might go this season and to Brentford. Pennington as had a good season with the youth team and some outings with the U-21's and as even broke into the England U-19's side so might be worth giving him a new deal to see if he can keep on kicking on and improving.

As for McAleny he looks a decent little player and im sure we'll offer him a new deal but it's wether he'd want to stay or not?. Maybe he'll be one of those players that thinks, now Moyes as gone, the new man might look more to bring the youth through and he might get a fair chance?!. Cos he went on a right run of scoring form for the U-21's, scoring something like 6 or 7 goals in as many games and he never even got a look in with the first team squad even though Stubbs was talking him up at that point about breaking through again this season.

What sort of defender is Pennington? It seems like Browning is slightly ahead of him in terms of pecking order.

I don't think Bidwell will make it. Don't they view Garbutt as ahead of him?

I hope Mcaleny is kept.

Pennington has got his first Pro deal with Chris Long and Ibou Touray from the U18s. He's a centrehalf really although they like playing him rightback sometimes. Good tackler and header and quite brave, think Jagielka. Browning is a year ahead (same year as Barkley, Lundstram)

Tom Molyneux, Jasper Johns and George Waring (Stoke now) are the ones released. The other 2 from the U18s, Springthorpe and Taudul signed Pro deals when they turned 17.

Johan Hammar has been released, he's trialling with his old club Malmo i believe. I think Bidwell has another year? We should look to sell him on really instead of releasing him, someone in the Championship would snap him up.

Not sure on McAleny, he's no closer to the first team than he was a year ago despite a superb U21 season. I think the new man coming in might have his ideas.

We do never seem to have any foreign players in our younger squads, which in a way is quite good, but also quite strange for a premier league team.

Doesn't surprise me he was released to be honest. He's been playing holding midfield in a 4-5-1 for the past 2 seasons and it's a tough role to play. Your positional sense and anticipation need to be top notch to intercept and tackle and i think that where he falls down.

He's doesn't really have the pace to play out wide (he has been used as a right-mid on occasion) nor does he have the vision and passing range to play further forward.
