UKIP win Clacton

More importantly is the fact the came a very close second to Labour in Heywood and Middleton, a previously safe Labour seat.

It would be interesting to know whether it was pretty much a straight transfer of votes from Tory to UKIP in Clacton, ie the residents were backing Carswell or UKIP (obviously backing Carswell is backing UKIP, but were they voting to keep their present MP)

Love the spin Labour are putting on the Heywood result. 'We increased our share, we are awesome!' they scream. Until you look closer and see they lost something like 7,000 votes, and the turnout was something like sub-50%.

Took votes off all 3, but mainly Conservative. Which as they held a large majority is not that surprising.
