I was curious about the prize money potential for the UEFA Cup and came across this nice Adobe file on the UEFA website that shows how the money was distributed last year for both the Champions League and the Cup.

I hope you find it as interesting as I did.

6 million in total for sevilla, and 4 million for tottenham...not bad, but the champions league get a bonus of 3 million jsut for qualifying!!

I mean don't get me wrong if we reach the same stage as Spurs we would earn around £2~2.5M which ain't bad, certainly much more than winning the F.A. Cup!

It is no wonder they say CL is where the money is, if we were not taken out the possibilities of reaching CL group stage by so call the best ref. at the time, we would make almost £3.25M even if we lose all 6 games in the group stage!

Not to mention 3rd place team drop into R32 in the UEFA cup to make more money at later stage, I understand the number of team start in the competition and potential interest by the standard of football is not going to be as high as CL, but for a fact the winner of CL and UEFA Cup would play each other in the Super Cup and I think the winner play the World Cup match!

Don't forget the 3rd place team start playing in R32 so when UEFA Cup reach the Quarter-Final the prize money level should reach the same as CL group stage to be more fair!

Honestly Sevilla must be feeling stupid themselve as they made only £3.125M for winning UEFA Cup, while the worst perform team in CL group stage made £3.25M as they got knock out from Europe competition completely!

Sevilla must be enjoying themselve this year as they leading there group with 12 points basically into R16 making around £2.25~3M extra from just playing the next round!

The performance in the CL from Sevilla the last year UEFA Cup Champion prove the standard of UEFA Cup team could reach the standard of most team playing in the CL, really we should be getting more prize money from Quarter-Final stage as the standard has raisen to CL standard by that stage!

You're spot on about that huge gap between the two competitions.

That's why it's imperative for clubs like us or Blackburn, Spurs, etc... to crack the top four and for the top four to stay there.

The rich get richer as they say but as we've seen across the park, spending loads of cash doesn't equal quality on the field or in the results column.

So I'm guessing we got anywhere from 300,000 to 400,000 in prize money, not including gate receipts and all that?

What do you think the total haul might be including home gate receipts, etc...???

We had 5 home games didnt we? So assuming £25 ave ticket price x 35k ave gate for 5 games would be about £4.4mil i think?

Do the players get a cut of the prize money or are European games considered part of their contract and thus, they are compensated out of their normal weekly wages?

winners of CL: 39 million.
winners UEFA cup: 6 million.

and the lowest paid club in the CL got 5.5 million! thats nearly as much as the winners of UEFA cup and they didnt even have to win a game to get it!

I dont think we made quite as much as you may think fill as our club is a founder member of the league I reckon 10-15 % are 65 which my old man on his season ticket was dicounted
at £11 for last nights game and less for the lower games as we have,nt missed a game and
I paid I think one of the games was £8 and also for last nights game I paid £21 for my own
seat then theres the kids rate

I doubt we'd have made too much from the campaign after player bonuses etc. but it will have done two quite invaluable things.

1) Raised our profile. We should be far more familiar with potential recruits now. Our own players will be convinced we're heading places, and hopefully attracting sponsors/investors will be a bit easier.

2) Experience. We have progressed visibly throughout this season and I believe a huge part of that has been our European exploits. Compare yesterday with the performance against Metalist. The manager has improved and so have the players.

Everton will get around 500,000 Euros. If we had reached the QF (or further) we would have enjoyed a significant rise in income as all ticket sales and media ( basically TV) rights for games from the QF onwards are taken by UEFA and redistributed (see Spurs figures).
