Uefa plans third European club competition from 2021

Uefa plans to introduce a third European club competition alongside the Champions League and Europa League from 2021.

Uefa head of competitions Andrea Agnelli said "the green light has been given", pending approval.

He was speaking at the annual general assembly of the European Club Association in Croatia.

Bout time they reverted back, there was nothing wrong with the way it used to be with the CWC alongside the UEFA and CL. spread the field out a bit better and give more clubs the chance to win a trophy. Just too many games now to win these competitions so if it cuts the number of games I'm all for it.

It says there will only be 16 teams involved but I assume what it'll actually mean is a lot more get to pre-qualifying then it's narrowed down to 16 for the official first round.

Also, if it's a cup winners cup then what will happen to the English FA Cup winners who at the moment get a place in the Europa League. Qualifying for the 3rd rate ECWC instead of the 2nd rate Europa League will just devalue the FA Cup even more.

Interesting. I wonder which format it'll take.

A 2 legged knockout Cup for the League Champions of the bigger leagues or just the favoured few
or
A cup winners cup type filled with lesser sides.

Given we've already seen sides fielding reserve teams in the Europa league, cos of how difficult it is to manage their domestic campaign alongside, I think it'll just be a knockout tournament for Europe's so called elits (and the rs)
