Assuming Everton qualify for European competition next season the following is a resume of their current seeding prospects - whichever competition that the club would qualify for - based on the likelihood of higher ranked teams qualifying from their respective (European) leagues and also based on the knowledge that a number of teams ranked above Everton are unlikely to qualify for European competition next season.
If Everton qualify for the CL - barring an unlikely collapse by one of Man Utd or Arsenal in the Premier League, it would, of course, be via entry in Qualifying Rd 3
The following higher ranked teams are on course to qualify for next season's Champions League competition in the Group Stages - as a result of their final league positions.
Internazionale, AS Roma, Arsenal, Manchester United, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Olympique Lyon, Girondins Bordeaux, PSV Eindhoven, Bayern München, Werder Bremen, FC Porto, Benfica, CSKA Moscow, Zenit St. Petersburg (Total 15) - CSKA and Zenit have already qualified.
The following higher ranked teams are - by final league position - on course to play in Champions League QR3
Juventus, Chelsea and/or Liverpool, Villarreal, Ajax, Hamburg, Glasgow Rangers, Rapid Bucharest, Shakhtar Donetsk, Panathinaikos (Total 9)
In addition there are four higher ranked teams on course to play in QR2 expected to make it into QR3 as a result of seeding in that round:
Celtic, Olympiakos, FC Basel, Brugge (Total 4)
This means that if Everton were to qualify for the CL, Qualifying Rd 3 - where there are SIXTEEN games (16 seeded and 16 unseeded) they would be ranked NO LOWER than 14th of the 32 teams - meaning SEEDED - but if then qualifying for the Group Stages would almost certainly expect to be ranked in the lowest pool of 8 teams (Pot 4)
UEFA Cup
If Everton qualify for the UEFA Cup 1st Round (or indeed lose in the CL Qualifying Rd and subsequently enter at this point) the following higher ranked teams are also on target for a place in the UEFA Cup:
AC Milan, Tottenham Hotspur, Sevilla, Olympique Marseille, Schalke 04, Bayer Leverkusen, Sporting, Fenerbahçe (Total 8.) - Tottenham have already qualified.
The following 6 higher ranked teams may also qualify for the UEFA Cup. These teams are outside qualification places in their respective leagues:
Steaua Bucuresti (currently 5th place), Stuttgart (7th), Lille (French Cup possible), Monaco (9th), Valencia (10th and in Cup Semis), Espanyol (7th):
Note also that Getafe (9th place) are currently ranked below Everton but may outrank them with further UEFA Cup progress this season and are also remain in the Spanish Cup.
Everton's UEFA Cup Round 1 Ranking would be somewhere between 9th and 16th - with 40 seeded and 40 unseeded teams playing at the Round 1 stage this means that Everton would be seeded.
Fair Play or Intertoto
Should Everton qualify for the UEFA Cup via either of these routes their UEFA Cup ranking would be as above with the proviso of the additional round(s) would have to be played.
It is also worth noting that any win on Wednesday against Fiorentina lifts Everton 4 places in the 2008 Rankings to 52nd place overall, and a draw to 53rd place.
