Uber

At periods of high demand the rate can be increased to help attract drivers to come out and become available to take a fair - it's seen as a great insensitive.

Furthermore, even if demand isn't especially great but there's a perceived low number of vehicles out (reducing their capacity to quickly react) it'll do the same.

Uber are meant to have cracked down on the cleaning fee, but apparently they can set themselves as 'off-duty' and back on-duty to help beat the procedures.

Personally, if I need a taxi I use them regularly now as it's easy to estimate a fare, track where they are and complain if necessary; plus, no need for cash!

As a consumer, not even the staunchest capitalist is going going to put up their hand and say they actually like paying more, but I think their charging model is more than fair enough. As a business model it's brilliant... matches supply and demand, and is self-regulating.

Don’t like it myself. Went to town the other day at around midday and it was like a £6, which was fair enough. Then coming home an hour later, it would’ve been £10-£13. Just got a Delta instead

It's a swing-and-roundabouts situation as like @evilwebby mentioned it meets supply and demand: often it's significantly cheaper, other times it's not.

You'll rarely pay more than a private-hire taxi and if their estimate is more expensive (usually late evening or Xmas etc.) then fortunately there's still other options.

My brother and I got an Uber to town on a Saturday once (pre-12pm on our way to the Ship for a pint) and it was an Uber Exec BMW 7 Series and £6.50 - bargain!

I’m Genuinely not really sure other than from what I’ve read in this thread where a poster ter has said anything around 4.6 can be an issue.

My point was more just an observation that it wouldn’t take much to drop a rating .

Met a bird, somehow got talking about it and hers was 3.2.

Probably a warning sign.
