Love it myself - tracking your driver and seeing the price makes life easier.

Can understand the black cabs going beserk - but not a fan of getting in one and paying £30 for a journey when I can get an uber and pay around £12.

Its technological progress.

Only really used it when away. Wouldn't use it at home tbh.

Went to Amsterdam last summer and paid 20 odd euro for a Taxi, night following got an Uber for 8.70 something.

Funny an Uber thread should come up. My lad and his mates ordered a cab to our house the other week, price for the journey was £17. They kept an eye on where the driver was and tracked the cab to just round the corner from our house, so they went outside to wait, the next thing the driver cancels on them. They then book again through Uber but this time the cost for the journey was £36, obviously they're not happy of the price hike but go ahead anyway, they look to see where the driver is, and the car coming to pick them up is tracked parked up round the corner, and it turns out it's only the same driver who originally cancelled on them still parked up round the corner!

When the taxi arrived my lad asked him why he had cancelled on them when he was actually only around the corner from the house in the first place, he said the driver just grumbled something and he then just drove in silence all the way ignoring their questions.

My lad was on one, so he eventually put a complaint into Uber explaining what had happened, he got the usual "We do apologise, this isn't Uber policy" etc, etc, in the end they refunded him the difference between the original fee they were charged for the cancelled taxi, and the £36 they ended up being charged.

I might be wrong but I think they have hours where the rates go up. If it was close to being such an hour then the driver may have done this to get them to rebook at a more expensive time.

Someone actually mentioned something along those lines to my lad mate. As my lad said though and what pissed them off was that when they ordered the original cab and tracked it, it was coming up as parked up round the corner, not actually moving, so it looks like the driver has been parked up waiting for the higher rate to kick - in, and just before that rate kicked - in he's then cancelled the cab on them, and as you say, got them to rebook at the more expensive rate, and then because he was only parked up round the corner he still gets the job, but at the higher rate.

Uber must have known the score though to give him the refund for the difference.

Good on him for chasing it up and complaining. They get away with stuff like that because not enough people do complain.

Only time I've had an issue was in London - driver saying he can't get in touch when I was outside where I requested and I got charged £5.

Filled in the automated form on the app and got it redunded.

Never had an issue in Liverpool - it's been fantastic.

They put the prices up in peak times but I don’t think there is a set time. It goes on supply v demand. In the city centre/events it can be a pain but I normally just walk for 5 minutes and get away from the crowds.

Love Uber though.

I've used it quite alot and never had a problem, I've heard horror stories of people being told a journey will cost a certain amount for it to be triple once they've checked their bank the following day. Usually a complaint to them results in a refund though.
