...certainly the case with me. Every player on the books will be talented, some more than others but you have to have the desire and will to succeed. When you get a mix of top talent and application you have star players. I think it's more likely you will make a living out of the game if your mentality is greater than your skill level, rather than the other way around.

You look at the likes of Suarez who wants to win so much he often crosses the line of what's acceptable but with his skill level it makes him a formidable footballer. Rooney might be past his best but he was never scared of playing footy. It's not a coincidence that many footballers come from humble backgrounds.

I cant remember the exact quote but I think it was the step up from schoolboy to first professional forms and the difference in coaching being harder/stricter,as you say there has to be a mental toughness,will to win to go with any atheletic ability in amy sport
