Best band of all time. Fuk off if you don't think so.

Is that enough of an opinion for you?

It is. Wrong of course but an opinion all the same.

I loved them up until Bonio went up his own ar$e. First 3 albums were amazingly good and Bad was the highlight of live aid, but since, jeebus, the thought of them gives me the squits, especially after I tunes infected me with their virus

Legend has it U2 was playing a surprise concert in a Dublin pub. After one song, Bono start slowly clapping over his head. The punters, thinking it's a new song, start clapping along with him.
"Every time I do this," he said, "a child in Africa dies."
From the back of the pub came: "Then stop doing it."

Achtung Baby is incredible. The first 5 studio albums were as strong as you can get. I totally admit the last few have failed to impress and it's been hit and miss since then. But they are still capable of greatness. And as I've stated before, there really is no other band in rock history to do what they've done for 34 years. Same lineup. Never broke up. They've always been relevant. Regardless of whether you love them, like the, used to love them, or always hated them no one has ever had the career they have.

Also I don't get the idea that you're supposed to like people personally in order to appreciate the art. I'm not sure Morrissey would be the best drinking buddy, but he's still a total genius. I happen to think Noel Gallagher is a great bloke, and if he was a regular guy, we'd probably be mates, but I was never a huge Oasis fan. When I think of bland, middle of the road music I think of Oasis. Many disagree with me, but U2 have always pushed boundaries and taken chances. Sometimes they fail, but when they succeed it's special.

Agree with pretty much everything here

BUT

Always pushing boundaries? Maybe they push themselves outside their own boundaries, but music in general? That stopped around the 'Pop' era. Since then they've just been regurgitating other people's music. Not dissimilar to Madonna, who spent many years redefining the female pop star and female pop music. Then she just got whoever was the producer a la mode to make her music sound fresh, when it was anything but.

They did push musical boundaries in music in the early days (no one sounded like them then or now really). But fair point on recently. I think you have to give a group credit for not making the same album over and over again.

Talking of which, the latest AC/DC album is mainly bobbins. Much life their last 10 or so.

But U2 have certainly been consistently good

Yes, a credit you certainly couldn't give to Oasis, a band who just made the same album about 6 times.

Word has it that they produced an entire album with Richard Fearless of Death In Vegas, only for Liam to scrap it all saying it was crap and they were a rock n roll band. They then went on to release Standing On The Shoulders Of Giants.

I think they're great tbh. I did loose a bit of patience with them in the 90s and swerved some of their music, but I'm totally back on board with them now and still like to listen to the back catalogue. Brilliant live, and some great footage from the 360 tour can be found on YouTube.

Best concert I've ever attended was on that tour. And I've seen them loads, and I go to a lot of shows.
