Just been watching this programme on Channel 4 and slightly confused. Do people get more money if they have loads of kids and have no interest in ever working as opposed to say a single person who currently is out of work but wants to work?

Taking any notice of those type of programmes is a waste of time, used to turn people against the less well off and
not at the real targets

True. I'm not targeting the less well off lad. I'm simply interested as a comparison to the Irish system. For instance what does a single person get on the dole in the U.K.? In Ireland its 188euro which is about 137. 69 pounds

@Lids1978 a single person in the UK will get £73 per week in JSA.

They're also entitled to housing benefit if over the age of 25, but that depends on your local authority.

I'd say that a typical figure for that would be around £69 per week.

If you've been consistently paying into the system for decades you'd be entitled to contributions based JSA, instead of the £73 per week . I've no idea how much you'd get on that but I'd guess it would be more.

if you are genuinely interested why dont you do some proper research and have a look at say the DWP's website? or you could just get outraged without knowing anything...

Research is too much like having to go out to work all day......Like the doleites simply refuse to do......Instead, just watch ch5........If it ain't fat people, then it's their pets on the dole, living by the seaside & having their weddings on our taxes.

And they all have flat-screen television sets, the scrounging bleeders

Jesus H Navas.........*Awaits the usual 'kippers' to stick their oar in*

Those shows are designed to demonise an element of the working class and turn the workers, lower middle class against them. Utter horrors who make them ! They started by destroying the pubs and working men's clubs, the very fabric of our class. Now its easy to divide us and lay blame by inventing an even lower class for us all to hate and despise with these shows. Sad Days.

That "even lower class" you talk about is a manifestation of government policies going back decades, not the fault of TV producers mate.
The main mistake in my eyes was when they decided a woman who has a child is automatically entitled to a house, a lot of young woman saw breeding as a career choice, thus breeding in lots of cases, children with no aspirations other than to sponge off the state.

You summed it up perfectly. You'll probably get accused of being a Tory snob by some middle class socialist though.

what is the alternative to this?

Politics doesn't 'turn me on' mate, I'm of the mindset that for every MP that really wants to make a difference there are 20 who are out solely to line their own pockets.
But if pushed I'd say I lean to the left as it goes.

Very much the same as myself, not right or left. I find tribalism and following stereotypes is ruining politics. There's no left or right only good or bad ideas.
