Had a conversation of the same ilk yesterday...them making the comment about the reason we explore space is "so the rich people can leave the poor behind". Hmm, kicking rocks on Mars and taking a dump in your space suit or chilling in a forest listening to the birds? Hard choice, that.

Uh, no...we explore space so we can find a feasible spot to send the ever-increasing poor. Providing we live long enough as a species to accomplish it, of course.
