Indeed it is a similiar concept, albeit more akin to the NFL playing a few games in London rather than every team playing one game abroad.....but we can expect that 39th game nonsense to raise its ugly head again.
How would the 39th game even work in a fair system?
Say we have to play Man City 3 times in a season for example, and someone we’re competing for 6th with gets Newcastle as their 39th game?
Can’t get my head around how they’d do it.

Even if it's just a couple of fixtures it still distorts the result of the league. If it's an extra fixture, who's to say Barca might have an easier game than Real and win the league by a point? Atletico's title challenge could be derailed by an awkward fixture played in New York in the middle of the season.

It's a farce and the integrity of the league is called into question.

You are asking me how it would be fair

Nobody thinks it would be fair...it is just a mad idea that was desugned for one reason and one reason only.....to make money.

And alas, for that reason alone this nonsense refuses to die and IMO has an inevitability surrounding it that will be hastened by the La Liga deal.

Stand by for Scudamore and the RS owners making apocalyptic statements about how the EPL “cannot afford to be left behind” in the ever more gluttonous pusuit of money

lol I was just thinking out loud. I find the whole concept baffling. But as ever I wouldn’t be surprised if the greedy nobheads at the top sold some of our games abroad.

Imagine if the Goodison Derby was played over there. It’d be a RS home game basically, we’d hardly have anyone there.
I’d be fuming if it happened, pay for a season ticket but didn’t get to go to one of the most important games

This is a terrible idea... And I'm saying this as an American. If they really want to promote their league here, they should get it off Bein Sport (which nobody really has) and get it on ESPN or let NBC or FOX get another league to show. Also don't know how that's fair at all taking a home game from a team. They do it all the time here with the NFL games in London and the teams fans miss out on 1 of 8 home games a season. Crap idea all for money.

No, the 39th game won't come back.
Didn't that Scudamore come out and say they'd still like abroad matches, but not necessarily a 39th game.

It's a shame someone like Wigan are still in the Prem, don't really get great gates, so would be a great guinea pig as per say.

Still hate the idea myself.

Would be a farce if this happens, and it would also be the end for many fans. Imagine having our home games against Liverpool and Man Utd in the US.

So if its one game then I imagine its going to be el classico or the Madrid derby. The problem is that the home fans of one of them teams is going to miss one of the biggest games of the season.

Imagine the first el clsssico played at the Bernabeu then the second is in Texas. The Real Madrid fans would be missing out on the biggest home game of the season. Plus because the league is head to head results there, that would be a massive disadvantage. I dont know how they will manage that.

Its disgraceful though.

Id imagine that it will be a Barcelona or Madrid’s away game against a minnow.
