Tsunami warning for NZ

I'm in the South Island so didn't feel it, my parents though live in Napier (east coast North Island) and they got a helluva rude awakening this morning. First big one was at 3am our time.

Quite a few work colleagues up north in Auckland have received text alerts from Civil Defence advising to stay away from beaches / coastal areas (sensible). Those that live near the coast are going to higher ground.

Northland (north of Auckland) and the east coast is sparsely populated, Auckland and the Bay of Plenty region are the biggest population zones up that way. From what I've read so far there has been swells of around one metre on parts of the coast, but nothing too damaging as yet. There'll be a few aftershocks to come so that will be the concern, of course
