Sitting here at stupid O'clock trying to get asleep as an early morning awaits me, and it's seeming impossible. It's also became a regular occurrence not being able to sleep before at least 1am. Now I know you are all probably thinking I need to learn to turn the laptop off sooner or start 'settling down' earlier (as the mother would say), but no matter the technique it doesn't seem to work. Having to wake up at 7am most mornings doesn't help either and leaves me asking for help on fixing the on-going pattern that is, the sleeping pattern..

I used to have terrible trouble sleeping, and still do occasionally. The one thing I found did help was consistent early starts. Do you power nap during the day? If so I'd say stop doing that, it always used to make me feel groggy as sh*t afterwards, and then I'd end up not being able to sleep again in the evening. Also the biggest problem I have is with getting back to early nights/mornings if ive been up too late over the weekend or the night before, my body just won't be ready to sleep when I need to. If possible don't be up till 3/4/5 am one night if you need to sleep at 11pm the next.

Exercise mate. Not being funny but would you class yourself as over weight?! That's an issue too if you are

Exercise definitely helps mate. I used to struggle getting to sleep massively due to lack of exercise, as mentally i would be shattered, but physically my legs wanted to just get up and walk as they had plenty left.

Last time I checked my BMI on the Wii Fit I was classed as slightly underweight, though exercise could still be a solution.

In summer holidays and whenever I'm off, I do find myself getting into a bad routine of going asleep at 4/5/6am, even 12 in some cases. I made an attempt to fix it once by staying awake for 41hrs, yes, 41 whole hours. It worked for the first 3 days but went back to staying up till early hours in the morning not long after.

For the past 17 years I have fought against sleeping issues which i have had since the age of 13.

I now sleep continually with an ear-piece in and find the only way I can fall asleep is by listning to radio. (talk not music).

Doctor says its just a habbit which helped and I should try and sleep normally, but i cant.

Dont know if it would work for everyone but i as soon as i pop in my ear piece and listen to Talksport (or whatever suits yourself) i go right out. The wife finds it odd, but she doesnt here it and glad im not spending the night climbing the wall.

Everytime i try without it my head goes in overdrive and spend the night thinking about stuff and makes me unable to sleep.

Exercise regularly. Don't stay up late at the telly / console / pc / artificial 'white' lighting. Don't eat a few hours before intending to go to bed.

But when even sawdust fails, I take melatonin and then I zZzZzZzz.

i have the same problem, i cant sleep with silence. so i leave the TV on when i go to bed, usually talksport or sky news.

I have to fall asleep with the telly on and The Football Ramble podcast on in my ear, should try it, good little show. Just a habit I've fallen into over the past year.
