...it's impossible. I've talked offline with a few of the lads about this, and I know some experience the same thing.

Case in point, the last few weeks I've been out with a couple different girls...and the subject of travel came up. I said I was planning a trip to England next year.
"Oh where?"
"Liverpool".
"Why Liverpool?"
"Well I support a team called Everton, who are in Liverpool".
"Oh so you're going to a game...by yourself?"
"Well no I have friends over there?"
"Friends? How do you have 'friends' there?"
"Well I'm on this message board a lot, and I've developed friendships with a lot of the guys, some of whom have offered to pick me up from the airport, and even let me stay at their places if I need to"
*quizzical look..."And you've never met these people?"
"Errrrrrrm"

Makes me look like a right weirdo when you actually say it outloud.

No, you need to treat them like the freaks. They haven't got into internet special interest friendships? What the feck is wrong with them? Hold your head up high and say I'm part of a special crew of people who bond over their love of the might Blues. I'm chosen, you clearly aren't!

Yes mate, it's best to keep GOT as a friendly open secret for like minded, humerous blues the world over.

Meeting people on the internet is pretty weird I think, in most cases. But let's say it was 20-30 years ago and instead of e-buddies you said your penpal. People wouldn't find that as weird.

You can get to know someone quite well over the net, and when you're sharing common interests in a place like this then that's especially true.

But of course there's no substitute for real life and that's why I'm quite private on here and like to keep my forum self separate from my actual self. The two naturally converge at points (music opinions for example) and I may have to rethink my policy if the good Jdizzle actually does visit our shores!

If I come, and you don't meet up with me I will be crushed, all joking aside.

Forum self / 'real' self' - multiple personality disorder, right there!

would gladly go meet up after a match for a pint with people from GOT. im quite tempted to go Southampton away.

Well I'm going to plan something...maybe the Friday night before, or after the game. We can make it a semi-official GOT event.

Southampton weekend is going to be the most ridiculous weekend ever to happen in the history of the world.

If The Dawg comes over then it would be the cherry on top.

Bet Sky move the game to a Wednesday night or something the utter cads.

I tell everyone i go on message boards, i'm on other forums as well as GOT, one i began posting on when i was 12 and i'm 21 in a few months and i've met loads of lids of them forums and even had them stay at my house, no awkwardness whatsoever. I'm gonna be meeting a few of the GOT lads at the footie on Wednesday and i can't wait. I think in this day and age it's not exactly unusual is it, i read about some japanese lid who married a vritual character on the internet, he had a service for it in real life complete with speeches from his family members, thats ****ing weird. I also met my last girlfriend on facebook after we both commented on a mutual friends status, i made an amusing comment and she laughed and was quite fit so i added her, guess it was love at first like.
