Troy Davis executed in Georgia

From what I gather, there's been no conclusive evidence, and no DNA matched on a weapon. I don't think they even actually found a weapon, and the witnesses all changed their stories.

I've only found out about this today, just seems quite shocking they can give someone the death penalty...anyone know more on this?

Basically put to death on an eyewitness account, bit odd.

There are lots of people on death row for similiarly strange circumstamces most famous is Mumia

Why ?. The Americans are satisfied that he did it. If he did then he won't do it again and it will deter others. If he didn't then tough, an innocent man has died but it will still deter others. Overall having the death penalty works better than not having it.

Wow. That's pretty harsh, dude. How would you feel if it was someone in your family being put to death for something they clearly didn't do? "Tough, he'll be an example to others, society wins".

There isn't a shred of evidence that it acts as a deterrent or that it's better to have it. Murderers either kill in the heat of the moment or don't think they're going to get caught. The only "western" country still employing it is a few states in the USA.

Whether it has that effect or not there's no justification to killing an innocent man

Innocent people get murdered every day. It is more important to stop innocent people being murdered. More people are being murdered since abolishing the death penalty. None of it is nice but the Maths favour the death penalty. In yesterday's echo some little scrote fired a bullet into the back of a car containing children, if the same little scrote and any mates who were with him could be hung if the bullet had killed someone, then believe me that little scrote and his mates would have thought twice beforehand.
