A TV replay system allowing coaches to challenge a referee's decision is being proposed by Sepp Blatter.

The Fifa president, speaking at Manchester's Soccerex, also confirmed his intention to stand for re-election.

The 78-year-old wants coaches to be allowed at least one challenge against a decision per half.

"They have the right in the half, twice or once, to challenge a refereeing decision but only when the game is stopped," he said.

"Then, there must be a television monitor but by the television company and not by another referee.
"And then the referee and the coach, they will go then to look, and then the referee may change his mind, as it is the case in tennis, for instance."

The trial could happen as early as next year.

"It can only be done where there is television coverage of all the matches," added Blatter.

"Or in one Fifa competition, we can try in a youth competition, an Under-20, like next year when we are in New Zealand."

Good idea IMO.

How do you change a decision of a free kick at half time, do you just go out and retake another one? What if a goal was scored at the other end in the following bit of play, does that still count?

Better still an offside decision? Do they then go and everyone stands in the positions they were in when the whistle blew, someone throws the ball roughly where it was when the offence was blown and 3-2-1 go... bang..goal!!!!

Its ace, games could take hours trying to set people up, and if someone was a few yards off their previous position and there's a goal, Lineker and co could show us all over and over again how it wouldn't of happened the first time.

What if its a red card, they concede from the free kick, turns out it wasn't a red, just a yellow... does the player come back, and does the goal stand, after all, would the 11th player of been there to stop the shot?

Only 4 times a game you say? err no. The RS would never allow it when they play us mind you. Makes me want to reconsider... Nope, still no.

I think Barkley will defo go on to become a class talent mate

any sort of thing like this you would think would benefit the game - but we still spend days arguing over a decision on here, pundits do it in the studio etc.

there's still going to be the people in charge making mistakes. just because they have a video replay, it's still their interpretation - just like it is for other sports, you'll see a run out in cricket you disgaree with, a try given that you thought was a forward pass.

it won't cut out diving, that's for sure, you'll still see people jumping before contact, but as they are touched in mid-air, people interpret that as a foul and the cheat will win.

Why would they have to make it take so long. Literally seconds after it happens live TV has a replay.

And yeah, i'd be more in favor of just clamping down on cheats and everything after the match than during. Even tho they get HEAPS wrong during matches, players trying to intentionally con the ref need to stop.
