A while ago I posted that this would be a transitional season with Martinez selecting his system and slotting the players into it for a year to get used to it and further his ethos and style of play. Slowly bringing through youth and waiting for more cash to come in.

CM -- McCarthy
AM -- Barkley
CF -- Lukaku
If you were going to make a first eleven on paper with an emphasis on young players you would end up with:
GK -- ??
LB -- Garbutt
LCB -- Jagielka
RCB -- Stones
RB -- Coleman
LCM -- Besic
RCM -- McCarthy
AM -- Barkley
LW -- Mirallas
FW -- Lukaku
RW -- ??
Solely based on this I think we will see a focus in Jan or in the summer on:
Right Winger
Centre Back
Goalkeeper
As I said at the season start, however I think alot will be determined by how well the younger players progress this season such as Browning and Galloway as well as Ledson
I also believe he will go for players of 21ish years of age such as Lukaku/Besic which ideally would mean Deulofeu, Nastasic and Butland types with any spare funds used for alcaraz/barry type stopgap signings and loans.
It makes sense in this case why he wants to give his favourites game time and bide his time waiting for cash so next season the system will work much better with an extra 3players he needs.
Otherwise none of it makes sense and I dont think hes a stupid man, he must have a vision.
