Transfer gossip - an excellent article

You can sometimes see where the stories come from by the journo and his history or connections with agents or managers etc.. Agents do leak stories though to unsettle a fanbase and maybe force a clubs hands in offering a new deal or potentially easing the exit . I have been told, more than once , if you see a player repeatedly linked with a particular figure in many different reports say £15m that does tend to be the club 'leaking' an acceptable price to any interested parties and preparing the fans for the inevitable exit.

very intresting read similar to how transfers are conducted, engineered in this mnonths 442

What did it say mate ?

I hear a few bits and try and out myself into it and i find it fascinating , the actual way it develops is just something that's interesting to me. For example the way an agent , who isn't bellamys actual agent has been used by the buying club for everyone of his deals since Blackburn. I find it funny that people rage about redknapp and his 'tapping up' in interviews seemingly unaware that all the discussions are already probably well advanced with agents.

Kenwright's Everton wrote the book. There's been more Judas's than a Judas look-a-like contest at this club.

I'm a supporter of change and a long way from pro-Kenwright and I think he's woeful at transfers but I've had discussions before that Rooney (his agent & his family) were 'plotting' and exit , Lescott wanted out as did Arteta although one was classier than the other all the way back to Jeffers (another heavily influenced by his family ) . The reality is once players see $$$$ and sometimes 'bettering' themselves football wise they can't wait to get out the door

Mate, I'd love you to write an bit of an article about how it all goes down. It appears that it should be straightforward but it clearly isn't. The whole thing fascinates me.

I've actually been in rooms when it's done . I watched an agent (it was years ago and not the fella I know well) get telephoned by one club for a centre half then ring another clubs manager and say ''are you still looking to get rid of player x ?" . Then in the space of 20mins say "they don't seem convinced by him you'll have to be flexible " and "they don't really want him to leave it'll cost you" . These weren't top clubs but he finished the calls after about 20mins and said "that's how you earn £x" . Nowadays obviously you can only work for one club in a deal but they will just introduce another 3rd party agent they know into the deal.

The amount of agents used in a deal is fascinating as if everton want to buy Player A , they might not know his agent too well but they know Agent1 who has a great relationship with the player they might approach him who will then go to the players agent 2 and say you sit back I might have a move and a nice few quid for you or you can do it but the club don't like you . So agent 1 gets paid by everton but Stoke who are selling might use Agent3 for their deals so Agent1 approaches him and in the earn everybody earns out of it. Mad really but they are now well ingrained in the game .

Or when a club want to sell a player they might approach multiple agents and say we want £6m for him but if you can earn more you get a substantial percentage of that extra fee.

Some agents hardly handle players any more they just work for clubs buying and selling, it is fascinating . I'm told repeatedly anyone can be an agent but unless your lucky enough to have a top top player on your books you need to have a phone with the managers , players, agents & CEO's numbers on or you'll never really 'make it'.

I'm off out so writing that in a hurry , I'd always try and pass on a few bits if people were interested though

Cheers Sheeds. I'd be interested if you could be bothered.

It's a chicken and egg situation that one. Who can really be sure where the dynamic originates from to transfer a player? When the shit hits the fan though, there's never any of it flying in the direction of the desperate asset selling club though, that's the point.

I certainly agree with that mate. I had a few rows on an other site over Rooney . I've got no brief gor Kenwright at all , far from it and I've no doubt selling Rooney probably 'saved us' if the rumours and stories are true . However I personally know an agent they rang Peter mac up and told him he ahould come in with their firm as the Rooneys were talking to Stretford as he wasnt big enough and they were looking at a possible move to united . Peter wouldn't believe it and thought he was a family friend , by the time he realised it was too late and he got turned over. Whatever gets said in the future im convinced Rooney and or his family pushing him towards the door

...maybe. After a few words of wisdom from Stubbsy and whoever else was at the club and on a drink from Proactive.
